The Ministry of Interior commemorates its legacy on its founding day with the "Place of History" initiative

Reviving the legacy on Founding Day
Coinciding with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's National Day celebrations, the Ministry of Interior completed its unique "Place of History" initiative for the second consecutive year. This initiative is part of the Ministry's efforts to connect its prosperous present with its rich past by restoring and revitalizing one of its prominent historical sites: the Ministry's first headquarters in Riyadh, which was inaugurated in 1957.
The Ministry affirmed that this step carries profound national implications, as it reflects the close connection of the security establishment to the roots of the first Saudi state, and highlights the continuity of its pivotal role in supporting national stability and enhancing the comprehensive development achievements witnessed by the Kingdom under the wise leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect them.
The historical context of the founding day
Saudis celebrate their National Day on February 22nd each year, a day that symbolizes the deep historical roots of the Saudi state, founded by Imam Muhammad bin Saud in 1727. This day represents a national occasion to take pride in the state's enduring heritage and to commemorate its three centuries of development and stability. In this context, the "Place of History" initiative embodies this pride at the institutional level, highlighting the establishment and development of one of the most important state institutions: the Ministry of Interior, which has been an integral part of the nation's development since its earliest stages.
The importance and impact of the initiative
The “Place of History” initiative aims to restore and develop historical and archaeological sites associated with the Ministry of Interior’s history, highlighting their role as living testaments to the evolution of security work and administrative organization in the Kingdom. Revitalizing the Ministry’s first headquarters is not merely about restoring an old building; it is a celebration of institutional heritage and a documentation of a pivotal period in which government work transitioned to a new phase of organization in the capital, Riyadh. Locally, the initiative contributes to strengthening national awareness among younger generations about their country’s history and institutions, deepening their sense of belonging and pride. It also opens a new cultural and tourism window into the history of administration and security in the Kingdom, aligning with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which places great importance on preserving and revitalizing national heritage.
The initiative, which is being carried out under the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Interior, embodies the leadership’s interest in reviving historical sites and enhancing their presence in the national memory, reflecting the deep historical reach of security institutions and their firm role in consolidating security and stability, which is the basis of development and prosperity.
