An Indonesian pilgrim was saved in Medina after his heart stopped

Emergency medical services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have achieved another humanitarian milestone, as paramedics from the Saudi Red Crescent Authority in the Madinah region successfully rescued an Indonesian pilgrim and restored his pulse after he suffered a sudden cardiac and respiratory arrest in a hotel in the central area surrounding the Prophet's Mosque. This successful operation underscores the high level of preparedness and exceptional speed with which Saudi paramedics respond to critical cases among pilgrims.

Details of the rescue operation of an Indonesian pilgrim in record time

The Director General of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority branch in Madinah, Dr. Ahmed bin Ali Al-Zahrani, explained that the region's medical deportation center received an urgent report of a critical medical case involving an Indonesian visitor. The nearest specialized ambulance team was immediately dispatched to the scene, and the medical team attended to the patient within a record response time of just 3 minutes and 1 second from the time the report was received.

Dr. Al-Zahrani added that the ambulance teams immediately performed advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) according to the medical protocols approved by the authority. Thanks to God and the swift and professional medical intervention, the teams successfully restored the patient's pulse and breathing on site, and his condition stabilized before he was quickly transferred to Al-Salam Endowment Hospital for further medical examinations and to receive the necessary medical care.

Healthcare for pilgrims: A lasting Saudi legacy and continuous giving

Historically, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has placed serving pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah at the forefront of its national priorities. The healthcare system in the holy sites and the two holy cities (Mecca and Medina) has witnessed tremendous development over the past decades. The Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, works to provide an integrated network of hospitals, health centers, and mobile ambulance teams equipped with the latest global medical technologies to ensure the safety of the millions of Muslims who come to perform the rituals annually from all corners of the earth.

Dimensions and impact of Saudi medical competence at the local and international levels

Such successful emergency operations carry significant implications and have a wide-ranging impact on several levels. Locally, these successes bolster the confidence of citizens, residents, and visitors in the efficiency of the Saudi healthcare system and its ability to handle complex medical emergencies during peak times and the Hajj and Umrah seasons. Internationally and regionally, the success of Saudi medical services sends a strong message of reassurance to Muslim countries that send their citizens to perform the pilgrimage, most notably the Republic of Indonesia, which has the largest number of pilgrims from Muslim-majority countries. These ongoing efforts contribute to solidifying the Kingdom's position as a leader in humanitarian and service work in caring for pilgrims, and reaffirm its longstanding commitment to providing a safe and healthy environment for all visitors.
