Where do Saudis prefer to spend Eid morning in Saudi Arabia?

A recent public opinion poll revealed interesting details about social customs, showing that the majority of Saudis prefer to spend Eid morning with their immediate families. According to the study conducted by the National Center for Public Opinion Polls on community behavior during Eid al-Fitr 1447 AH, 53% of respondents chose to stay with their immediate family, including parents, spouse, children, and siblings. In contrast, 40% stated they preferred to spend this joyous occasion with extended family gatherings, including uncles and aunts, reflecting the deep-rooted nature of family ties.

The roots of family bonding during Eid morning in Saudi Arabia

Historically, holidays in the Arabian Peninsula and the Kingdom have been intertwined with deeply rooted social customs passed down through generations. Eid has never been merely a religious occasion, but rather an extension of a culture of generosity and social cohesion. These rituals begin in the hours immediately following the Eid prayer, with doors opening to welcome well-wishers and tables laden with traditional dishes and sweets. This cultural heritage clearly explains the survey results, as the emphasis on staying with family is not a recent phenomenon, but rather a continuation of historical traditions that prioritize kinship ties and direct communication with relatives over any other leisure activity.

The sample used in this study included 1,105 participants from various segments of society, with men comprising 68% and women 32%. The results also touched on other categories with different preferences; the data showed that 5% of participants spend the holiday at their workplaces to ensure the continuity of essential services, while 1% indicated that they prefer to go to sleep immediately after performing the Eid prayer to maintain the regularity of their usual daily routine, and 1% chose other varied options.

Celebration patterns and their impact on the local community

Regarding broader celebration patterns, the study confirmed that 88% of participants prefer gatherings with family and relatives. Meanwhile, 8% participate in entertainment and cultural events held within their own cities, 1% choose to attend Eid celebrations in other Saudi cities, only 1% prefer to travel outside the Kingdom, and 2% mentioned other options.

The economic and social dimensions of Eid celebrations

This trend of spending Eid locally with family is of paramount importance and has a tangible positive impact on several levels. Locally, the fact that the majority of citizens remain in their cities and participate in local events contributes to revitalizing the economy and supporting the retail, hospitality, and entertainment sectors. Regionally, the Kingdom presents a unique model for balancing rapid development and tourism with preserving cultural identity and Islamic values, particularly the importance of maintaining family ties. These results clearly reflect the Saudi society's adherence to authentic social values, the strengthening of family bonds, and the growing interest in participating in Eid events and activities organized by relevant authorities to enhance quality of life.
