A global partnership between Riyadh University of Arts and Guildhall Music

In a pioneering step towards enhancing the cultural and educational landscape in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Culture announced the signing of a significant strategic partnership. The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London was selected as the academic partner for the College of Music at Riyadh University of Arts. This agreement aims to develop national creative talent in the fields of culture and the arts, and to support international cultural exchange efforts in line with the Kingdom's cultural aspirations.
The journey of cultural development and the establishment of Riyadh University of Arts
was not Riyadh University of Arts a coincidence, but rather the culmination of a rich history of cultural development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, aligned with the goals of Vision 2030, which places culture as a cornerstone of quality of life and economic diversification. A royal decree established this prestigious university, headquartered in the capital city of Riyadh, with His Highness Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, Minister of Culture, serving as its Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Historically, there has been a pressing need for a specialized academic institution that blends tradition and modernity, providing a nurturing environment for Saudi talent. Thus, the university was launched to become a fundamental pillar of creative education and cultural innovation, empowering students to acquire the skills and vision necessary to shape the future of the Kingdom's creative economy.
Details of academic collaboration with the prestigious Guildhall Foundation
Under this agreement, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama will collaborate closely with academic staff in the Kingdom to design advanced undergraduate and postgraduate programs, as well as enhance research pathways. Targeted disciplines include performance, music production, and music education, along with providing training and professional development opportunities for faculty members. Founded in London in 1880, the Guildhall is one of the world's leading institutions specializing in the performing arts. It was ranked number one in the fields of arts, drama, and music in the Complete University Guide 2025 and among the top three institutions globally for music and performing arts in the QS World University Rankings 2025.
Expected impact on the art scene locally and internationally
This partnership carries profound strategic dimensions that extend beyond local boundaries to reach broad regional and international horizons. Locally, the programs to be developed will contribute to nurturing and supporting Saudi talent by providing students with a comprehensive understanding of creative processes and the professional skills necessary to work effectively in the music and cultural sectors. Regionally, this collaboration reinforces Riyadh's position as a hub for arts and culture in the Middle East, attracting creators and researchers from neighboring countries. Internationally, this step opens wide doors for cultural exchange, where the rich Saudi cultural identity merges with global expertise, contributing to the export of Saudi art to international stages and building strong bridges of human and cultural communication.
A global partnership network enhances the university's leadership
This move is part of a series of strategic partnerships the university has established with leading international institutions to jointly design academic programs. Last December, a collaboration was announced between its Film School and the University of Southern California's (USC) School of Cinematic Arts. Other alliances include a partnership between the School of Heritage and Cultural Studies and the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London, and another between the School of Theatre and Performing Arts and the School of Performing Arts (AMDA). The university has also focused on the administrative side, partnering with the School of Cultural Management and ESSEC Business School. Most recently, in January 2026, an agreement was signed with the Royal College of Art (RCA) to develop programs for the School of Design and Architecture and the School of Visual Arts. The university plans to gradually launch its programs, encompassing short courses, diplomas, bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, and doctorates, ensuring a comprehensive and continuous learning experience.
