Saudi Arabia wins silver at the 2025 World Robot Olympiad in Singapore
In a move reflecting the rapid development of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the fields of technology and innovation, the Kingdom made a remarkable appearance on the international stage by concluding its participation in the World Robot Olympiad (WRO 2025) , which was hosted by Singapore from November 26 to 28. The competition witnessed fierce competition among more than 90 countries, with the Saudi team, consisting of students Sari Al-Qahtani and Abdulrahman Al-Rashid, winning first place in the Arab world and the silver medal globally in the "Future Creators" category.
A smart project to explore the Red Planet
This victory was no accident; it was the result of a unique and innovative project presented by the Saudi team: the development of a self-driving robot powered by cutting-edge artificial intelligence. The project's primary objective is to simulate the exploration of Mars and study the potential for life beyond Earth. The robot boasts exceptional capabilities, including highly accurate soil and environmental analysis and automated seed planting, offering advanced scientific solutions that serve the space sector and smart agriculture.
Strategic partnerships and intensive training
This outstanding participation was the result of a strategic partnership between Tuwaiq Academy and Misk Schools, generously sponsored by the Saudi Space Agency. The two students underwent an intensive technical training camp that lasted several months at Tuwaiq Academy, where the "learning by doing" methodology was implemented. They were trained by a select group of experts and specialists, using the latest tools and technologies that meet the rigorous international standards of the Olympiad competition, enabling them to build and program the robot with high proficiency.
Strategic importance and alignment with Vision 2030
This achievement is particularly significant given the technological advancements underway in the Kingdom as part of the Saudi Vision 2030 , which places great emphasis on developing human capital and empowering youth in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The Saudi Space Agency's sponsorship of the project also reflects the Kingdom's commitment to localizing the space sector and related industries, and to fostering innovation in artificial intelligence and robotics technologies, thereby strengthening the Kingdom's position as a global hub for technology and innovation.
About the World Robot Olympiad (WRO)
