Launching 5 agricultural projects aimed at enhancing food security

In a significant strategic step towards achieving sustainable development, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced the launch of five high-quality investment opportunities through the “Furas” platform. These projects are distributed across four key regions: Al-Baha, Al-Qassim, Najran, and Hail. This initiative comes within the framework of ongoing government efforts aimed at enhancing food security and achieving high levels of self-sufficiency in various agricultural and livestock sectors, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

Historically, the Kingdom has faced geographical and climatic challenges, including water scarcity and arid terrain, making reliance on imports to meet food needs commonplace for decades. However, with the launch of Vision 2030, a radical shift in national strategy has occurred, focusing on leveraging the comparative advantages of each geographical region and employing modern technologies to conserve water. This historic transformation has paved the way for innovative and sustainable agricultural solutions, turning environmental challenges into promising investment opportunities that support the national economy and reduce dependence on external supply chains.

National strategies to enhance food security and regional development

The Ministry revealed details of these promising projects, with the Al-Baha region receiving two prominent investment opportunities. The first opportunity involves the establishment of the “Ran National Park” in Baljurashi Governorate, which will cover a vast area of 403,635 square meters. This project aims to support environmental and tourism activities and preserve the unique vegetation that characterizes the region's natural landscape. The second opportunity in Al-Baha is for the cultivation of banana trees in Al-Hujrah Governorate, covering an area of 530,128 square meters, in a move aimed at increasing local production of tropical fruits. The deadlines for submitting applications for these two opportunities are set for June 2nd and 3rd, 2026.

In the Qassim region, considered the Kingdom's breadbasket, a massive project has been launched to establish the "Western Hasana Park" (Phase 1) in the Buraidah Governorate. Spanning a vast area of 6 million square meters, this project is poised to become a significant environmental and tourism asset. The deadline for applications is June 3rd.

Agricultural and livestock diversity to support the local and regional economy

The projects were not limited to the plant and environmental aspects, but extended to include strategic crops and other vital sectors. In the Najran region, an area of 273,621 square meters was allocated for the establishment of a model nursery for producing coffee seedlings. Coffee cultivation in the south of the Kingdom is considered a project with economic and cultural dimensions, contributing to meeting the growing local demand for Saudi coffee and supporting local farmers. Applications for this project close on June 2nd.

Regarding livestock, the ministry presented a major investment opportunity in Al-Labidi Governorate in the Hail region, dedicated to raising and fattening livestock and producing red meat on an area of 4 million square meters, with a final deadline of June 2nd.

The strategic importance of these projects extends beyond the local level to encompass a tangible regional impact. Locally, these investments will contribute to creating thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities for residents of the targeted areas and stimulate commercial activity. Regionally and internationally, the Kingdom's success in achieving food self-sufficiency enhances the stability of food markets in the Middle East and provides a model for countries with similar climatic conditions on how to manage natural resources efficiently.

In closing, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture extended an open invitation to all investors and entrepreneurs to compete for these golden opportunities through the “Fursah” (Opportunities) online platform. The Ministry emphasized the importance of carefully reviewing the terms and specifications to ensure projects are implemented to the highest quality standards, thereby achieving the major national goals of self-sufficiency in meat and agricultural crops and securing a sustainable food future for generations to come.
