Qatar affirms its support for Yemeni legitimacy and Gulf security unity

In a move reflecting the deep fraternal ties and shared destiny among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, the State of Qatar announced its close and continuous monitoring of developments in the sisterly Republic of Yemen. This announcement reaffirms Qatar's unwavering support for the legitimate Yemeni government, emphasizing the necessity of preserving Yemen's unity, territorial integrity, and national sovereignty—a position consistent with international resolutions and the Gulf Initiative aimed at ending the conflict.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in an official statement that Doha stands with the brotherly Yemeni people with all its diplomatic and political capabilities, emphasizing that safeguarding the interests of Yemenis and fulfilling their aspirations for security, stability, and development is a top priority. This statement comes at a time when the region is witnessing intensive diplomatic efforts aimed at finding sustainable political solutions to the protracted crisis, which has cast a shadow over the humanitarian and economic situation in Yemen.
In a related context, the Qatari statement emphasized the principle of “collective security” for the Gulf states. The Ministry affirmed that the security of the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the security of all member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council, is an integral part of the national security of the State of Qatar. This affirmation stems from a deep belief in the shared destiny and the deep-rooted historical and social ties that bind the peoples and nations of the Council, making any threat to one member state a threat to the entire Gulf system.
The State of Qatar also highly commended the recent statements and positions issued by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which reflected a strong commitment to prioritizing the region's best interests, strengthening the principles of good neighborliness, and adhering to the foundations upon which the Gulf Cooperation Council's Charter was established. This commendation is considered evidence of the harmony in Gulf political visions regarding sensitive regional issues and a commitment to unifying ranks in the face of current challenges.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded its statement by reaffirming that Doha will always remain at the forefront of countries supporting all regional and international efforts aimed at establishing a culture of dialogue and diplomacy. Qatar believes that a political solution is the best and only way to end crises and achieve prosperity, security, and stability for the peoples of the region, far removed from the language of escalation, which does not serve the interests of these peoples in development and prosperity.
