Cocaine smuggling foiled at Jeddah Islamic Port | Saudi Arabia News

The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has achieved another security success, adding to its impressive record, by announcing the thwarting of a cocaine smuggling attempt at Jeddah Islamic Port. The seized narcotics weighed approximately 8.4 kilograms and were discovered professionally concealed inside a shipping container arriving in Saudi Arabia through the port.
The strategic importance of Jeddah port and the challenges of customs control
Jeddah Islamic Port is one of the most important and largest seaports in the Middle East, boasting a long history as a major gateway for global trade connecting Asia, Europe, and Africa. Given its strategic location and the enormous volume of trade that passes through it daily, some criminal networks seek to exploit this maritime activity to smuggle contraband. However, over the years, Saudi authorities have developed a comprehensive security and customs system that utilizes the latest global technologies to thwart these attempts, making the port a formidable barrier against smugglers.
Details of the operation and the techniques used
In detailing the latest operation, the official spokesperson for the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, Hamoud Al-Harbi, explained that customs officials subjected an incoming container to a thorough inspection. Using advanced security technologies and live detection methods, including sniffer dogs, the narcotic substance was discovered carefully concealed within the container's air conditioning unit. This demonstrates the vigilance of customs personnel and their exceptional ability to uncover the latest methods of concealment and camouflage.
The repercussions of foiling a cocaine smuggling operation on local and international security
The importance of thwarting cocaine smuggling extends far beyond simply seizing a quantity of the illicit drug. Its profound impact encompasses protecting local communities from the scourge of drugs, which threatens the health and future of young people and drains the resources of the national economy. Regionally and internationally, these seizures represent a significant blow to organized crime networks and transnational drug cartels. The Kingdom's success in combating these operations reinforces its position as an active international partner in the global war on drugs and underscores its unwavering commitment to implementing the highest security standards to prevent legitimate trade routes from becoming smuggling corridors.
Community and security partnership to deter smugglers
The Authority affirmed that it continues to tighten customs control over all imports and exports through all its ports of entry and remains vigilant against any attempts targeting national security, in continuous coordination and effective cooperation with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control. In closing, Al-Harbi extended an open invitation to all citizens and residents to contribute to protecting society and the national economy by reporting any suspected smuggling crimes. The Authority can be contacted confidentially via the dedicated security reporting number (1910), by email ([email protected]), or by calling the international number (009661910). The Authority offers substantial financial rewards to informants whose information is verified, in recognition of the importance of community partnership in combating these scourges.
