Inspection of electrical load management in the holy sites during the Hajj season

His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Supreme Hajj Committee, conducted an important inspection visit to the Operations and Control Center in Mina, which belongs to the Saudi Electricity Company. This field visit aimed to assess the readiness of the electrical load management system in the Holy Sites, as part of the intensive preparations undertaken by the service and security sectors involved in ensuring the success of the Hajj season and providing the best possible services to the pilgrims.
Infrastructure development to serve pilgrims
Over the decades, the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has paid close attention to developing the infrastructure in Mecca and the Holy Sites. Historically, the energy and electricity system has undergone radical transformations to keep pace with the ever-increasing number of pilgrims year after year. The Kingdom has moved from relying on simple generators in the past to establishing smart and massive electrical grids that are among the most complex and advanced in the world, reflecting the wise leadership's commitment to harnessing all material and human resources to facilitate the performance of the rituals with complete peace and ease.
Reliance on artificial intelligence in monitoring
During the visit, His Royal Highness the Minister of Interior listened to a detailed explanation presented by the Assistant Minister of Energy for Electricity Affairs, Engineer Nasser bin Hadi Al-Qahtani. The explanation covered the mechanisms for monitoring and operating the networks with high efficiency, in addition to reviewing proactive analysis methods for operational indicators, which rely primarily on artificial intelligence technologies. These modern technologies contribute directly to enhancing service reliability, reducing response time to any emergency, and raising the level of operational readiness around the clock throughout the Hajj season.
The strategic impact of successful electrical load management in the Holy Sites
The success of managing electrical loads in the Holy Sites extends beyond simply providing lighting and cooling; its impact reaches local, regional, and international levels. Locally, this success enhances the stability of security, health, and service plans, ensuring the smooth flow and safety of crowds. Regionally and internationally, presenting an exceptional model for crowd management and sustainable energy provision within a limited geographical area and a short timeframe highlights the Kingdom's leadership and its remarkable ability to efficiently and effectively manage the world's largest human gatherings. This positively reflects on the Kingdom's global image and reinforces its leading role in the Islamic world.
Integration of security and technical efforts
His Highness, the Chairman of the Supreme Hajj Committee, was also briefed on the advanced technological systems used to monitor loads and control networks in real time. He received a comprehensive briefing on the Security and Safety Operations Center, which is responsible for receiving and accurately tracking emergency security reports. The operational and technical efforts undertaken to ensure rapid response and immediate handling of any emergencies were highlighted, thus guaranteeing the stability of services provided to pilgrims and supporting comprehensive plans.
His Highness the Minister of Interior was accompanied during this inspection tour by a number of senior officials, including His Excellency the Assistant Minister of Interior, Dr. Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al-Falih, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Battal, in addition to the Director General of the Minister’s Office for Studies and Research, Major General Khalid bin Ibrahim Al-Arwan, which confirms the high and continuous level of coordination between the various leaders to ensure the security and safety of the guests of God.
