Quality of life in Dhahran: Planting 940 trees and maintaining green spaces

The Dhahran Municipality is rapidly working towards achieving the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, recently announcing a package of environmental and service projects aimed at enhancing the quality of life in Dhahran. These efforts include the development and planting of over 774,000 square meters of green spaces, in addition to planting hundreds of trees and flowers to provide a healthy and sustainable environment for both residents and visitors.
Ambitious environmental initiatives to enhance the quality of life in Dhahran
The Mayor of Dhahran, Engineer Faisal Al-Qahtani, explained that the field efforts resulted in the planting of new green spaces covering an area exceeding 16,000 square meters. The municipality's technical teams also successfully planted 940 trees, in addition to planting more than 137,000 flowers to increase green areas and improve the city's overall aesthetic appeal.
Dhahran: From an industrial hub to a sustainable green oasis
Historically, Dhahran has been known as a major global hub for energy and innovation, given its status as the headquarters of Saudi Aramco. With urban development and increasing population growth, the need has become urgent to transform this vibrant city into a green oasis that balances industrial development with environmental sustainability. These recent projects are an extension of the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to combat climate change and reduce carbon emissions, in line with the “Green Saudi Arabia” initiative, which aims to increase vegetation cover across the Kingdom.
Repair and rehabilitation of public facilities to ensure sustainability
Engineer Al-Qahtani indicated that the maintenance and rehabilitation work encompassed existing green spaces exceeding 758,000 square meters, aiming to enhance the efficiency of parks and public facilities. This work coincided with the implementation of comprehensive periodic maintenance plans for pedestrian walkways and children's play areas, ensuring their sustainability and the safety of citizens and residents.
Widespread environmental and economic impact at both the local and regional levels
The importance of these projects extends beyond simply improving the aesthetic appearance; it encompasses tangible environmental and economic benefits. Locally, increased vegetation cover contributes to lowering temperatures within cities, reducing dust levels, and improving air quality. Regionally, these initiatives enhance the Eastern Province's position as an attractive tourist and investment destination that adheres to the highest standards of environmental sustainability and urban quality of life.
In closing, the mayor stressed the importance of community partnership in preserving these national achievements, calling on all members of society to maintain public property and facilities, and to report any observations through the official channels designated to ensure their sustainable use.
