SDAIA highlights Saudi Arabia's experience in artificial intelligence ethics in Tunisia

In a move reflecting the advanced position Saudi Arabia has attained in the global technology landscape, the Kingdom, represented by the Saudi Data & Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), participated in the "AI for the Future" summit hosted by the Tunisian capital. The summit witnessed the convening of the twelfth meeting of the Arab AI Team, organized by the League of Arab States, highlighting the importance of regional coordination in this vital area.

The Saudi Data & Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) delegation at this international forum was headed by Dr. Abdulrahman bin Tariq Habib, who actively participated in the main sessions, presenting the Kingdom's pioneering experience with the "Incentive Labels for Artificial Intelligence Ethics" initiative. Dr. Habib explained how this initiative contributes to promoting responsible AI practices and raising the level of commitment from technology providers and companies to ethical standards that ensure data integrity and algorithm transparency.

Strategic vision and national dimension

This participation comes within a broader strategic context linked to the objectives of "Saudi Vision 2030," which has placed data and artificial intelligence at the heart of economic diversification plans. Since its inception, SDAIA has been working to lead the national drive for data and AI to achieve the Kingdom's aspirations for global leadership in data-driven economies. The ethics of artificial intelligence are a fundamental pillar for ensuring the safe and reliable adoption of these technologies, protecting individual rights while simultaneously fostering innovation.

International partnership with UNESCO and the ICAIRE Center

On the sidelines of the summit, a representative from SDAIA participated in an in-depth review session titled "Responsible Artificial Intelligence and Ethics – From Guidelines to Application," organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The session highlighted the international efforts of the International Center for Research and Ethics in Artificial Intelligence (ICAIRE), which is based in Riyadh as a global initiative in collaboration with UNESCO.

The ICAIRE Center is a tangible example of the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting international efforts to develop ethical frameworks, as the center focuses on supporting research and developing policies that ensure safe and responsible uses of technology, serving humanity and reducing the potential risks of smart systems.

Strengthening joint Arab action

The participation was not limited to showcasing local experiences, but extended to strengthening joint Arab action through the twelfth meeting of the Arab Artificial Intelligence Team. These meetings are of paramount importance in light of the rapid pace of global technological advancements, as Arab countries strive to unify their visions and bridge the digital divide to ensure the region does not fall behind in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The Kingdom’s participation through “SDAIA” in this summit confirms its pivotal role as a driving force for innovation in the region, and its active contribution to building an emerging knowledge society that keeps pace with rapid global transformations, thus consolidating its position as a regional and international reference in the field of artificial intelligence governance and ethics.
