National Water Company completes sewage projects in Al-Qunfudhah

The National Water Company announced a significant milestone: the completion of an integrated wastewater system in Al-Qunfudhah, at a total cost exceeding SAR 228 million. This major project is a key component of the company's environmental services initiatives, aimed at improving quality of life and upgrading infrastructure, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. The project included the construction of a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant, extensive sewage networks, and pumping stations to ensure a sustainable and comprehensive service for citizens and residents of the governorate.
Development of water infrastructure in the Kingdom
Historically, the Saudi Arabian government has prioritized the development of the water and sanitation sector, given the Kingdom's unique geographical and climatic characteristics that necessitate prudent water resource management. Over the past decades, Saudi cities and provinces have witnessed a surge in the establishment of water networks. However, rapid urban expansion and population growth have compelled relevant authorities, primarily the National Water Company, to accelerate the pace of modernization efforts. Al-Qunfudhah Governorate, with its strategic location on the Red Sea coast, is one of the areas that has received special attention to ensure a healthy, pollution-free environment, prompting the launch of a series of development projects to keep pace with this steady growth.
Safe and sustainable water treatment
The company explained that the new treatment plant in Al-Qunfudhah was designed and implemented to operate at a capacity of 7,500 cubic meters per day. This operational capacity makes it a cornerstone in protecting the environment and promoting public health by treating wastewater using the latest safe and efficient methods that comply with stringent environmental and regulatory requirements. The plant also aims to improve the efficiency of operational processes in the governorate and reduce environmental damage caused by traditional methods, thus contributing directly to the sustainability of water resources and the protection of the local ecosystem.
Extension of sewage network projects in Al Qunfudhah
The project included the construction of main lines and a massive sewage network exceeding 100,000 linear meters in length, in addition to five strategic pumping stations to support the transfer of flows to the central treatment plant. This allows for serving more than 40,000 beneficiaries distributed across a number of vital neighborhoods, including Al-Khalidiyah North, Al-Khalidiyah South, the Old Town, Al-Burj, and the eastern and western districts. This expansion increases coverage in previously unserved areas and addresses the visual pollution caused by sewage overflows, reflecting the success of the Al-Qunfudhah sewage projects in achieving their field objectives.
Strategic and environmental impact of the project
The impact of this achievement extends beyond the local level, serving as a regional model for the sustainable management of water resources. Locally, the project contributes to eliminating the environmental and health problems associated with the lack of sewage networks, thereby increasing the property value of the beneficiary neighborhoods and enhancing the daily quality of life for residents. Regionally and internationally, the Kingdom's commitment to applying the highest environmental standards in water treatment reflects a clear commitment to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to ensuring access to water and sanitation services for all. This approach reinforces the Kingdom's position as a leading nation in environmental conservation and combating climate change.
Digital service channels to facilitate procedures
The National Water Company reiterated its call to all residents in the targeted neighborhoods of Al-Qunfudhah Governorate to expedite their applications for wastewater connection services through the official digital channels it has provided to streamline the process. Applicants can submit their requests either through the online branch or the National Water Company's mobile application, provided they complete and attach all required documents and information to ensure swift processing. The company emphasized that this step is a culmination of its ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency of environmental services and develop public facilities to meet residents' aspirations and achieve the highest standards of well-being.
