990 seizures of contraband: Zakat and Customs efforts in one week

As part of its ongoing efforts to protect national security and resources, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority announced the seizure of 990 contraband items across various land, sea, and air customs ports in the Kingdom in just one week. These successful operations underscore the high level of vigilance demonstrated by the Authority's personnel and their vital role in combating smuggling attempts of all kinds.
Details of operations to seize contraband and narcotics
The authority revealed in its weekly report that the seizures were highly diverse, encompassing 89 types of highly dangerous narcotics, including hashish, cocaine, heroin, crystal meth, Captagon pills, and other psychotropic substances. Efforts were not limited to narcotics alone, but also extended to the seizure of 461 other prohibited substances, reflecting the comprehensiveness and precision of customs control.
In a related context, the customs teams were able to thwart the smuggling of (2010) cases related to tobacco and its derivatives, in addition to seizing (36) cases related to the smuggling of sums of money in violation of disclosure regulations, and (3) cases of smuggling weapons and their supplies, which highlights the size of the security challenges that are being dealt with with high professionalism.
The first line of defense for the Kingdom's security
These seizures take on particular significance when viewed within the context of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's comprehensive security strategy. Customs ports are not merely economic gateways, but also the first line of defense against cross-border threats. These successive successes are in line with the Kingdom's comprehensive national anti-drug campaign, which aims to eliminate smuggling networks and protect society from the scourge of drugs that directly targets young people and the future of the nation.
The economic and social impact of control efforts
The success of the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority in seizing such a large quantity of contraband carries profound implications that extend beyond immediate security concerns. It contributes to protecting the national economy by combating tax and customs evasion and preventing the entry of counterfeit and adulterated goods. On a social level, preventing the entry of these quantities of drugs and narcotics means protecting thousands of families from disintegration and ruin, thus strengthening social stability and enhancing quality of life—a key objective of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
Reporting channels and social responsibility
The authority concluded its statement by calling on all citizens and residents to actively participate in protecting the nation, emphasizing that security is everyone's responsibility. It urged the public to report any suspicions related to smuggling crimes by contacting the dedicated security hotline (1910), via email ([email protected]), or the international number (009661910). The authority guarantees that all reports will be treated with complete confidentiality and will offer financial rewards to informants if the information is proven true, thus encouraging fruitful cooperation between the community and security agencies.
