Saudi Arabia weather: Winds and dust in Riyadh and Mecca, weather alerts issued

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued weather for today, Tuesday, warning of unstable weather conditions affecting several regions. The center explained that parts of the Riyadh and Makkah regions will experience increased surface winds and dust storms, urging citizens, residents, and highway users to exercise caution.
Weather details in Riyadh
According to the report, the weather conditions in the Riyadh region, specifically in Wadi Al-Dawasir, will begin at 9:00 AM and continue until 6:00 PM. These conditions are expected to bring reduced horizontal visibility due to suspended dust, along with active winds ranging in speed from 40 to 49 kilometers per hour. The warning also includes other governorates in the region: Al-Dawadmi, Al-Rayn, Al-Quway'iyah, and Afif, where dust-raising winds will reduce visibility to levels between 3 and 5 kilometers.
Weather conditions in Mecca
In a related development, parts of the Makkah region are experiencing similar dust storms, which also began at 9:00 AM and continued until 6:00 PM. These warnings are part of the National Center for Meteorology's ongoing monitoring efforts to ensure public safety and provide accurate information about current weather conditions.
Safety and dust handling guidelines
Due to the impact of these weather conditions on horizontal visibility, traffic safety experts advise drivers to exercise extreme caution while driving, especially on highways and open roads that are more susceptible to strong winds. Maintaining a safe distance between vehicles, using hazard lights when necessary, and avoiding excessive speed are recommended to ensure vehicle control in the event of strong crosswinds.
On the health front, doctors recommend that those with respiratory diseases, such as asthma and chest allergies, avoid direct exposure to dust and dirt, and stay indoors as much as possible during the alert period, while wearing medical masks when going out when absolutely necessary to reduce inhalation of fine particles suspended in the air.
Climate context and the importance of early monitoring
These weather fluctuations are part of the natural climate of Saudi Arabia, where surface winds become active during certain transitional and seasonal periods, leading to dust and sandstorms, particularly in open and desert areas. This report highlights the vital role of the National Center of Meteorology in monitoring weather phenomena using the latest technologies and satellites, contributing to the protection of lives and property through an early warning system that allows relevant authorities and individuals to take necessary precautions before an event occurs.
