Iran announced on Saturday that it would not compromise or back down from its positions in talks with the United States, mediated by Pakistan. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump warned Iran against "blackmailing" his country after it re-closed the Strait of Hormuz in response to Washington's continued blockade of its ports.
After Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced on Friday the full reopening of Hormuz for the remainder of the ceasefire in the Middle East, the armed forces reversed this decision and on Saturday reinstated "strict control" of the strait.
A British maritime authority reported that Iranian boats fired on an oil tanker in the vital energy supply route.
