Cabinet: Emphasis on the centrality of the Palestinian issue and the two-state solution

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may God protect him, chaired the Cabinet meeting held today, during which the Council reviewed all the consultations and talks that took place during the past days between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and a number of sisterly and friendly countries regarding the developments and course of events in the region.

The Council discussed the tireless diplomatic efforts underway to establish regional security and peace, emphasizing the importance of supporting multilateral international initiatives. This call stems from the Kingdom's belief that international cooperation is the best way to serve development and stability, and to strengthen the collective response to the common challenges facing the region and the world.

The centrality of the Palestinian cause and the Kingdom's principles

At the forefront of political matters, the Cabinet reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause to Saudi foreign policy. The Cabinet expressed the Kingdom's full and continued support for all regional and international efforts aimed at achieving an immediate and lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and alleviating the humanitarian suffering of civilians.

The Council stressed the necessity of enabling the brotherly Palestinian people to attain their legitimate and inalienable rights, foremost among them their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent and sovereign state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This position reflects the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative as the fundamental framework for a solution.

Historical context and pioneering role

This stance is a continuation of the historical and pioneering role that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has played since its founding, as the Palestinian cause has remained present in the conscience of the Saudi leadership and the Saudi people. From the era of the founder, King Abdulaziz – may God have mercy on him – to the prosperous era of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and his Crown Prince, the Kingdom has spared no effort in defending the rights of the Palestinians in all international forums, always emphasizing that a comprehensive and just peace in the Middle East cannot be achieved without finding a just solution to this central issue.

The importance of current international action

These statements are of exceptional importance given the current circumstances and escalating tensions in the region. The Kingdom, through its political and economic weight and its standing in the Islamic world, seeks to mobilize international public opinion to exert pressure for de-escalation and prevent the conflict from spreading. The Cabinet's emphasis on "multilateral international action" reflects the Kingdom's strategic vision of the necessity to activate the role of international institutions and the Security Council to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities for maintaining international peace and security, and to ensure that the region does not descend into further chaos.
