The Saudi Foreign Minister discusses relations and recent developments with his Canadian counterpart

His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, received a telephone call today from Her Excellency Anita Anand, the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs. This call came within the framework of ongoing consultations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Canada to strengthen bilateral cooperation and coordinate positions on current issues.
During the call, a comprehensive review of bilateral relations between the two friendly countries was conducted, and ways to develop them in various fields to serve common interests were discussed. The two sides also addressed the most prominent developments on the regional and international scenes, as well as issues of mutual concern, emphasizing the importance of continuing diplomatic dialogue.
The trajectory of Saudi-Canadian relations: A return to full diplomacy
This contact comes amid the positive momentum in Saudi-Canadian relations, particularly following the agreement reached in May 2023 to restore diplomatic ties to their previous status. This step reflected a desire on both sides to move beyond past disagreements and work on the basis of mutual respect and shared interests, paving the way for the exchange of ambassadors and the resumption of broader economic and trade cooperation.
The importance of joint coordination in light of global challenges
The talks between the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Canada are of particular importance given the weight of both countries on the international stage. Saudi Arabia, as an active member of the G20 and an influential leader in the Islamic world and the Middle East, plays a pivotal role in energy security and regional stability. Canada, on the other hand, is a member of the G7 and plays a prominent role in international politics.
Coordination between Riyadh and Ottawa is vital for dealing with thorny issues, especially with regard to efforts to establish peace and stability in the Middle East region, and dealing with humanitarian crises, in addition to enhancing cooperation in the fields of investment, renewable energy and education, in line with the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which opens up broad horizons for international partnerships.
Future prospects and economic cooperation
These regular communications are expected to contribute to advancing economic cooperation between the two countries, given the promising investment opportunities available to both sides. The Kingdom seeks to attract high-quality investments and localize technologies, areas in which Canadian companies can play a significant role. This engagement also reflects the Kingdom's commitment to its diplomatic approach, which is based on diversifying partnerships and building bridges with various countries around the world to serve the causes of international peace and security.
