Saudi Passports announces the latest technologies to facilitate the entry of pilgrims

The General Directorate of Passports in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced its complete readiness to receive pilgrims during the Hajj season. The Directorate confirmed that it is utilizing all its human and technological resources to facilitate the entry of pilgrims through all international ports of entry, whether air, land, or sea, to ensure they can perform their rituals with ease, peace of mind, and smoothness.
A continuous historical development in serving the guests of God
For decades, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has placed serving the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors at the forefront of its priorities. Historically, the Hajj pilgrimage required considerable time and effort to complete paperwork and routine procedures at entry points. However, with the Kingdom's rapid development, the Hajj and Umrah system has undergone radical transformations. Crowd management and passport control have transitioned from traditional methods relying on manual stamps and paper checks to the era of digitalization and advanced biometric systems. This historic shift reflects the wise leadership's commitment to providing the utmost comfort and safety for pilgrims, making the journey to the Holy Sites today faster and safer than ever before.
Modern technologies and their pivotal role in facilitating the entry of pilgrims
In its relentless pursuit of excellence, the General Directorate of Passports explained that its operational plan relies primarily on the latest technological devices and smart platforms. Passport control points at various entry points have been equipped with advanced systems capable of electronically reading documents and verifying biometric data in mere seconds. To ensure the effectiveness of these technologies in facilitating the entry of pilgrims, highly qualified personnel have been trained, fluent in the various languages spoken by the pilgrims. This breaks down the language barrier, expedites procedures, and guarantees a service befitting the Kingdom's stature and the magnitude of the world's largest Islamic event.
Makkah Route Initiative: A leading global model of Saudi leadership
The General Directorate of Passports' efforts are integrated with the initiatives of the Saudi Ministry of Interior, most notably the "Makkah Route" initiative, a key component of the Guests of God Service Program under the Kingdom's Vision 2030. The Ministry continues to leverage artificial intelligence technologies to implement this exceptional initiative across 17 entry points in 10 countries worldwide. The list of participating countries includes Morocco, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey, Côte d'Ivoire, the Maldives, and, for the first time, Senegal and Brunei Darussalam. This initiative allows pilgrims to complete their entry procedures at their home airports, enabling them to proceed directly to their accommodations in Makkah and Madinah upon arrival, without waiting at Saudi ports of entry.
The strategic dimensions and regional and international impact of a successful Hajj season
The impact of these technological advancements and pioneering initiatives extends far beyond the local level, easing congestion at Saudi airports and ports of entry. It encompasses broad regional and international dimensions. Domestically, this streamlined process contributes to enhanced national security and highly efficient crowd management, positively impacting the local economy and service sector. Regionally and internationally, the Kingdom's success in managing millions of pilgrims using advanced technologies strengthens its soft power and its position as a leader in managing massive crowds. Saudi Arabia also presents a global model for leveraging technology and artificial intelligence to serve humanity and facilitate international travel, solidifying its image as a sophisticated global destination capable of hosting major events with the highest standards of quality and safety.
