Saudi national science and engineering team projects at ISEF

The scientific evaluation of student projects participating in the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) has begun, with the Saudi Arabian Science and Engineering Team's rigorous judging sessions. This prominent global event is being held in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, from May 9 to 15. This year's competition features strong participation from approximately 70 countries, represented by more than 1,700 students from among the world's brightest young minds.

A long history of excellence at the ISEF International Exhibition

The International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) is the world's largest pre-college science competition, with a long history as a leading incubator of innovation. The Saudi Arabian National Science and Engineering Fair (NSEF) began its journey with the Kingdom in 2007, marking an inspiring success story. Over the years, Saudi students have demonstrated their exceptional abilities, winning 185 prestigious awards, including 124 Grand Prizes and 61 Special Awards. This upward trajectory culminated in a historic achievement at the last edition, where the Kingdom secured second place globally in the number of Grand Prizes, trailing only the United States. This reflects the strength of the Kingdom's educational and research infrastructure.

The Saudi national team's journey towards global recognition

The exhibition halls in Phoenix witnessed a large turnout of judges and experts, as students participated in specialized scientific evaluation and discussion sessions. These sessions involved approximately 1,200 international judges covering 22 scientific fields. The Saudi Science and Engineering Team is participating with 40 outstanding scientific projects, carefully selected from among the winning projects of the National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity, following a long competitive journey that saw the participation of more than 357,000 students who submitted over 34,000 scientific projects.

The national team comprises 42 students, 23 of whom are physically present in the United States, while 17 are competing remotely from Riyadh, in addition to two observers. All of these projects underwent intensive scientific reviews and training programs implemented by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education, to ensure their compliance with the highest international standards.

The strategic impact of Saudi innovations locally and internationally

The importance of student participation in this international forum extends beyond simply winning awards; it has a profound impact on several levels. Locally, these achievements contribute to fostering a culture of scientific research and innovation among Saudi youth, directly aligning with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which aims to build a sustainable knowledge-based economy. Regionally, the Kingdom solidifies its position as a leading nation in supporting talented individuals and exporting creative minds capable of finding solutions to challenges in the fields of energy, the environment, and technology.

On the international level, the projects presented by these students offer innovative solutions to pressing global issues, demonstrating that young Saudi minds are capable of competing alongside their peers from developed countries. The fact that these innovators stood before international judging panels to present precise scientific explanations of their methodologies and results reflects the exceptional level of preparation they received and confirms that investing in human capital is the winning bet for a bright future.
