Stages of manufacturing the Kaaba cover: An international review of the efforts to care for the Two Holy Mosques

Historical roots and development in the making of the Kaaba cover
The making of the Kaaba's covering (Kiswah) is one of the most important Islamic traditions, receiving immense attention since the dawn of Islamic history. Historically, Islamic states have successively held the honor of providing the Kaaba's covering, culminating in the prosperous Saudi era, which established a new phase of meticulous care for this great religious symbol. King Abdulaziz Al Saud, may God have mercy on him, ordered the establishment of a dedicated workshop for manufacturing the Kiswah in Mecca, which has since evolved into the "King Abdulaziz Complex for the Kiswah of the Holy Kaaba." This complex represents a qualitative leap, combining the authenticity of hand-weaving and embroidery with gold and silver threads with modern technologies that ensure the quality and durability of the world's most precious garment, all crafted by highly trained Saudi nationals.
The media delegation's field visit included a tour of the King Abdulaziz Complex, where the General Authority for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques revealed the intricate operational and industrial stages involved in producing the Kiswa (the cloth covering the Kaaba). The Authority showcased the skills of Saudi technical staff in weaving and embroidering this unique artistic and religious work. It further explained that the complex is the only entity in the world specializing in this unique craft, which is executed according to the highest technical and craft standards.
Documenting the historical architecture of the Two Holy Mosques
The Authority reported that the delegation also visited the Two Holy Mosques Architecture Exhibition, where they viewed historical artifacts and models documenting the various stages of care and maintenance of the Two Holy Mosques throughout the ages. The exhibition includes rare artifacts, historical columns, manuscripts, and inscriptions reflecting the architectural development of the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet's Mosque in Medina. This documentation not only preserves history but also highlights the extent of the care and attention given by the wise leadership to the Islamic holy sites.
Regional and international impact of efforts to care for holy sites
This visit aims to showcase to international media the scale of the comprehensive development underway in the services sector and to enrich the experience of visitors and pilgrims, in line with the Kingdom's ambitious goals within Vision 2030. Highlighting these efforts is of paramount importance at both the regional and international levels, reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's unwavering commitment to serving Islam and Muslims. Furthermore, showcasing these achievements through global media outlets enhances the Kingdom's positive image and underscores its leadership in crowd management and the provision of integrated logistical and spiritual services to millions of Muslims annually.
The Authority commended the media delegation's appreciation for the support and uniqueness this specialized industry enjoys, which has placed the Kingdom at the forefront of the world in this field. It noted that these integrated efforts highlight the Kingdom's honorable commitment to the care of holy sites and the development of services provided to pilgrims, ensuring a comprehensive spiritual and cultural experience that will remain etched in the memory of every visitor to these sacred places.
