During his field visit, His Excellency the Minister reviewed all the procedures and efforts undertaken to facilitate and ease the journey of the pilgrims. Historical background and ongoing development of the Makkah Route Initiative
is The Makkah Route Initiative one of the most prominent national initiatives under the umbrella of the Guests of God Service Program, one of the programs of Saudi Vision 2030. This pioneering initiative was first launched in 1438 AH (2017 CE) with the aim of creating a qualitative leap in the Hajj experience. Since its launch, the initiative has successfully served more than 1,254,994 pilgrims, reflecting the scale of its achievement and the continuous development of its operational mechanisms. The Ministry of Interior is implementing this initiative in its eighth year through close cooperation and institutional integration with several government entities, including the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Health, Hajj and Umrah, and Media, in addition to the General Authority of Civil Aviation, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), the General Authority for Endowments, the General Directorate of Passports, and in technological partnership with stc Group.
Dimensions and impacts of the initiative at the regional and international levels
The impact of this initiative extends beyond simply streamlining procedures locally; it encompasses significant regional and international dimensions. Internationally, the initiative enhances Saudi Arabia's soft power and highlights its global leadership in crowd management and the provision of advanced logistical services. Regionally, it deepens cooperation with beneficiary Islamic countries through proactive security and health coordination. The initiative's importance lies in providing high-quality services starting from the pilgrims' countries of origin, where they are received and their procedures are completed smoothly and efficiently, from collecting their biometric data and issuing Hajj visas electronically to completing passport control procedures at the departure airport.
Integrated logistics services for the comfort of the pilgrims
To ensure the highest levels of comfort, procedures include verifying compliance with health requirements before departure, contributing to the maintenance of global and local health security. Services also include baggage tagging and sorting according to transportation and accommodation arrangements within the Kingdom. Upon arrival at entry points, pilgrims are transferred directly to designated buses that transport them to their accommodations in Makkah and Madinah via dedicated routes to save time and effort. Partner organizations are responsible for the safe delivery of their luggage to their accommodations, allowing pilgrims to fully dedicate themselves to worship and perform the rituals in complete comfort and peace of mind.
