845 BAIC BJ40 vehicles recalled in Saudi Arabia: Details of the defect and how to fix it

As part of its ongoing efforts to ensure consumer safety and protect road users in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Commerce announced a new recall campaign involving a number of Chinese-made vehicles, after detecting a technical defect that could pose a risk to passenger and engine safety.
Details of the BAIC BJ40 vehicle recall
The ministry clarified through its official platforms that the recall includes 845 BAIC BJ40 vehicles, specifically models manufactured during 2021 and 2022.This proactive measure is part of the ministry's regulatory role to ensure that imported vehicles are free from manufacturing defects that may appear after use.
Nature of the defect and potential risks
The ministry revealed the technical reason behind the recall: the potential for a crack in the coolant expansion tank. This defect is critical, as a crack in the tank could lead to a sudden coolant leak, causing the engine to overheat and stall while driving. This sudden stalling not only damages the engine but also significantly increases the risk of traffic accidents, especially on highways.
Procedures required from vehicle owners
The Ministry of Commerce called on all owners of this car model to take the following steps to ensure their safety:
- Vehicle inclusion check: Owners should visit the Defective Products Recall Center website (Recalls.sa) and enter the vehicle chassis number to check if it is included in this recall.
- Contacting the dealer: If the vehicle is covered, you must immediately contact the local dealer, Petromin Automotive Company, via the toll-free number (8004420020).
- Free repair: The consumer is entitled to receive the necessary repairs and replacement of damaged parts free of charge without paying any additional costs.
The importance of a defective product recall center
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Commerce places great importance on vehicle recalls. The Defective Products Recall Center is a vital initiative aimed at protecting consumers and addressing manufacturing defects both locally and internationally. Regulations in Saudi Arabia mandate that local dealers repair manufacturing defects free of charge, thereby enhancing consumer confidence in the Saudi market and raising safety and quality standards, in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 goals to improve quality of life.
