Details of a military projectile falling in Al-Kharj and a statement from the Civil Defense

The official spokesperson for the General Directorate of Civil Defense in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia stated that on Sunday, Civil Defense teams responded to an incident involving a military projectile that landed on a residential site housing workers of a maintenance and cleaning company, located east of Al-Kharj Governorate. This unfortunate incident highlights the dangers posed to civilian infrastructure by indiscriminate attacks.

The official spokesperson explained that the incident resulted in the deaths of two residents, one of Indian nationality and the other of Bangladeshi nationality. The incident also resulted in injuries to 12 other residents, all of Bangladeshi nationality, who were immediately transferred to receive the necessary medical care. In addition to the loss of life, the relevant authorities recorded material damage to the residential building and surrounding properties due to shrapnel and debris.

A flagrant violation of international humanitarian law

In his comments on the incident, the Civil Defense spokesperson emphasized that attempts to target civilian infrastructure and populated residential areas constitute a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and its customary rules. Such indiscriminate acts of aggression, which fail to distinguish between military and civilian targets, are considered war crimes under international conventions, as they directly endanger the lives of innocent and defenseless civilians. This attack places the international community before its moral and legal responsibilities to condemn these practices, which threaten security and stability and disregard the sanctity of life and the lives of those living peacefully within the Kingdom.

Procedures for dealing with a military projectile strike

Upon receiving the report of a military projectile falling at the site, rapid intervention teams, ambulances, and relevant security authorities rushed to the scene. The area was cordoned off to ensure the safety of passersby and nearby residents, and the standard procedures for such incidents were implemented with precision and professionalism. The swift response of the Civil Defense teams reflects the high level of preparedness of the Kingdom's security apparatus to deal with various crises and emergencies to protect lives and property. The relevant authorities are currently working to complete all necessary procedures and document the damage, reaffirming the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to protecting the security and safety of all who reside within its borders, citizens and residents alike.
