Rainfall amounts in Saudi Arabia: Al-Qassim records the highest at 22.4 mm

Over the past twenty-four hours, large areas of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have witnessed weather fluctuations and rainfall, including 8 administrative regions. The Hydrological and Climate Monitoring Network of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture revealed details of the rainfall amounts, which placed the Qassim region at the forefront of the regions in terms of the intensity of the rainfall.
Al-Qassim records the highest rainfall rates
According to the official report, the Qassim region recorded the highest rainfall, with the city of Buraidah . Rainfall was not limited to the region's administrative capital but extended to other governorates at varying rates. Unaizah recorded 18.5 mm, Al Bukayriyah 17.5 mm, and Ash Shamasiyah 16.4 mm. Stations in Al Muthnib recorded 15.8 mm, Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Airport 15.3 mm, and Riyadh Al Khabra 15.1 mm, while Al Badai and Uyun Al Jawa each recorded 14.5 mm.
Rainfall distribution in Riyadh and other regions
In the Riyadh region, rainfall amounts varied, with Al-Zulfi Governorate recording a notable 22.0 mm in both Al-Alqa and Rawdat Al-Sabla, and 19.0 mm in Al-Zulfi city itself. In Riyadh, the Al-Nazeem neighborhood recorded 7.6 mm, and the Al-Masani' neighborhood 6.0 mm. Rainfall also extended to Al-Majma'ah, Tamir, and Rumah, with amounts ranging from 4 to 5 mm.
In the Hail region, Al-Shamli recorded 7.3 mm of rainfall, while amounts varied in other parts of the region. In the Eastern Province, Al-Rafiah in Qaryat Al-Ulya recorded 6.2 mm, with light rainfall in Hafr Al-Batin and Al-Nu'ayriyah. The rainy weather also affected the Tabuk, Northern Borders, Asir, and Madinah regions, though with relatively lower amounts.
Environmental and economic importance of monsoon rains
These rainfalls are of paramount importance to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, particularly in the Qassim region, which is considered the Kingdom's breadbasket and one of its most important agricultural centers. This rainfall contributes to replenishing shallow groundwater reserves and irrigating vast date palm and wheat farms, promising a good agricultural season and aiding in the development of natural vegetation in desert areas, which in turn supports the grazing and livestock sectors.
This accurate data is the result of the development of the climate monitoring system in the Kingdom, where the Ministry relies on a wide network of advanced stations (75 stations in this report) to provide accurate data that helps the concerned authorities in planning and managing water resources, as well as its role in activating emergency and public safety plans in cooperation with the Civil Defense.
Calls for caution and follow-up on reports
With the continuation of seasonal rainy conditions, the competent authorities always emphasize the importance of following official weather bulletins and exercising caution while driving on wet roads or near valleys and torrents, in order to enjoy the rainy weather safely.
