Smart technologies for managing pilgrim services in the holy sites

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia places great importance on developing its infrastructure and employing the latest technologies to ensure the best possible services for pilgrims in the Holy Sites. In this context, Kadana Development and Investment Company, the executive arm of the Royal Commission for Makkah City and the Holy Sites, is completing the activation of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. This advanced system aims to guarantee the efficiency and continuity of vital services for pilgrims during the 1447 AH Hajj season, representing a significant leap forward in crowd and facility management.

Historical development of crowd and facility management

Over the decades, Mecca and the Holy Sites have witnessed radical transformations in how Hajj seasons are managed. In the past, operations relied almost entirely on human effort and traditional field monitoring, posing a significant challenge as the number of pilgrims increased year after year. With rapid technological advancements, the Kingdom began gradually introducing modern technologies to ensure the provision of services befitting the pilgrims. Today, a new technological system forms a cornerstone of the digital transformation of asset management, through a unified control center that connects the operational infrastructure. This advanced system monitors vital facilities in real-time and with precision to ensure the smooth flow of operations around the clock.

Smart sensors to enhance services for pilgrims in the holy sites

The new system's coverage includes monitoring 400 backup water tanks, along with over 300 cooling systems distributed across various vital locations. It also enables monitoring and control of more than 800 electrical panels, 500 misting fans, and 1,000 restroom facilities. This advanced technology directly contributes to the detection of malfunctions or potential outages before they occur, allowing for immediate intervention. Real-time sensor systems empower operational teams to proactively address issues, minimizing risks and preventing emergencies that could disrupt the comfort of pilgrims.

The strategic impact of modern Hajj technologies

The project aims to reduce response times and enhance the operational readiness of vital facilities, while simultaneously improving asset management efficiency and minimizing waste of natural and financial resources. The impact of this remarkable technological advancement extends far beyond the local level, leaving a significant regional and international mark. By presenting a unique and globally exemplary model for smart crowd management, Saudi Arabia reaffirms its unparalleled leadership in harnessing smart city technology to serve millions of Muslims from around the world, projecting a positive and inspiring image of Saudi Arabia's organizational capabilities to the international community.

Digital integration achieves the goals of Vision 2030

This strategic step aligns with the objectives of the Guests of God Service Program, one of the key programs of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to provide integrated services that ensure the safety and comfort of pilgrims from their arrival until their departure. The initiative reflects Kadana Company's commitment to adopting smart and sustainable technological solutions that enhance the quality of life and facilitate the performance of rituals with the highest levels of peace of mind and ease. This comprehensive digital transformation ensures that the Kingdom remains at the forefront of countries utilizing artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things to serve humanity and facilitate the performance of religious rites with complete safety and smoothness.
