Millions of essential goods were distributed in Mecca to serve the pilgrims

The Saudi Ministry of Commerce announced an exceptional achievement coinciding with the Hajj season, having distributed over 243 million food items to meet the needs of pilgrims. This initiative aims to ensure the availability of essential goods in Mecca and the holy sites since the beginning of Dhul-Hijjah. These goods included a wide range of vital products such as bread, bottled water, dairy products, soft drinks, and ice blocks, reflecting the leadership's commitment to providing every comfort for pilgrims.
A long history of caring for the guests of God
Throughout history, caring for pilgrims and ensuring their needs are met has been a top priority for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since its unification. Providing food and water to millions of pilgrims was no easy feat in past decades, but tremendous development in infrastructure and supply chains has made it possible to manage this complex system with high efficiency. Historically, Hajj caravans relied on what they brought with them or what was scarcely available locally. Today, however, modern strategies adopted by the relevant authorities ensure the smooth flow of millions of tons of food supplies, reflecting a deep historical and religious commitment to serving those visiting the Holy Mosque.
Availability of basic commodities in Mecca (in numbers)
The massive quantities supplied to retail outlets reached record levels, reflecting the high demand and consumption during this spiritual period. Approximately 31.3 million loaves of bread and over 121.6 million bottles of bottled water, a vital resource for pilgrims in the hot weather, were made available. In addition, more than 82.2 million packages of milk, juices, and soft drinks were distributed, while the supply of ice exceeded 7.9 million blocks. These precise figures underscore the meticulous planning and the capacity of local markets to absorb this enormous influx without any shortages.
Average daily production of food products
To ensure a sustainable supply, factories and suppliers produce an average of over 8.8 million loaves of bread, 32.6 million bottles of water, and 24.7 million packages of milk and juice, in addition to more than 2.2 million ice blocks daily. This daily production capacity acts as a safeguard against any supply crises.
The economic and international impact of successful supply plans
The Kingdom's success in managing these millions of pilgrims and meeting their needs extends far beyond the local level, reaching regional and international dimensions. Locally, this massive commercial activity contributes to revitalizing the national economy, supporting local factories, creating seasonal job opportunities, and stimulating the logistics and transportation sector. Internationally, Saudi Arabia's ability to provide food and supplies for over two million pilgrims arriving from all corners of the earth within a limited geographical area and a short timeframe reinforces its global standing as a leading model in crowd and crisis management. This success sends a reassuring message to the entire Muslim world that the pilgrims are in safe hands and that all state agencies are working around the clock to ensure their safety and comfort.
Continued monitoring to ensure quality
In closing, the Ministry of Commerce affirmed its commitment to continuing its inspection tours and monitoring of food supplies across all markets and retail outlets. These ongoing efforts aim to ensure the availability of goods and products, monitor prices, and verify the quality of goods offered, thereby enhancing the readiness of services provided to pilgrims performing Hajj and enabling them to perform their rituals with ease and peace of mind.
