Environmental security efforts in apprehending violators of the environmental regulations in Hail and Asir

The Special Forces of the Environmental Security Sector continue their tireless and ongoing efforts to enforce the rule of law and protect natural resources in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In this context, recent field campaigns resulted in the apprehension of several violators of environmental regulations in the Hail and Asir regions, reflecting a firm stance against any practices that harm the ecological balance and deplete the nation's resources.
The role of environmental security in protecting natural resources
In the Hail region, environmental security patrols apprehended an Indian resident for violating environmental regulations by illegally extracting sediment. The forces stated that two pieces of heavy equipment used for dredging and transporting soil in an unregulated manner were seized, and all necessary legal procedures were applied to the violator.
These stringent measures are an extension of the strategic transformation the Kingdom has been undergoing since the launch of Saudi Vision 2030, which has placed environmental protection at the forefront of its priorities. Historically, some regions have suffered from the depletion of natural resources and land encroachment, necessitating the establishment of specialized forces to deter such violations. Today, this sector serves as a protective shield, ensuring the sustainability of resources for future generations and preventing environmental degradation that could result from unregulated human activities.
Addressing encroachments on vegetation cover
In another development, in the Asir region, known for its stunning natural beauty, authorities apprehended a citizen for violating regulations and guidelines concerning the preservation of vegetation. The violation consisted of lighting a fire in an unauthorized area within the parks, posing a significant threat to forests and green spaces. The relevant authorities confirmed that legal action would be taken against him, noting that the penalty for lighting fires in forests and national parks outside of designated areas is a fine of up to 3,000 Saudi Riyals.
The importance of these enforcement measures extends far beyond simply imposing fines; they have a significant local and regional impact. Locally, these efforts contribute to the success of the Saudi Green Initiative, which aims to plant billions of trees and combat desertification. Regionally and internationally, these steps reinforce the Kingdom's position as a leader in combating climate change and reducing carbon emissions, as preserving vegetation and preventing forest fires are among the most important global pillars for protecting the planet.
Community partnership to promote sustainability
The success of the environmental protection system depends not only on official efforts but also on the awareness of citizens and residents. Therefore, the Special Forces urge all members of society to take the initiative and report any instances of environmental or wildlife violations. Reports can be submitted by calling 911 in the Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and Eastern regions, or 999 and 996 in the rest of the Kingdom. Authorities emphasize that all reports are handled with complete confidentiality and professionalism, without imposing any legal liability on the reporter, thus reinforcing the principle of community partnership in protecting the nation's resources.
