The Saudi ambassador to Ethiopia praises the efforts of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center

In line with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's efforts to bolster its diplomatic and humanitarian endeavors, His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, met today at the Center's headquarters in Riyadh with His Excellency Abdullah bin Hassan Al-Zahrani, Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The meeting focused on exploring avenues for joint cooperation and discussing matters related to relief and humanitarian affairs, areas of paramount importance to the Kingdom.

Saudi efforts to provide humanitarian support

During the meeting, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Zahrani praised the pivotal role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, in providing assistance to those in need around the world. Al-Zahrani emphasized that the Center has become a landmark in international humanitarian work, thanks to its steadfast commitment to providing essential support to victims of crises and conflicts, and its responsiveness to the urgent needs of affected groups without discrimination. He noted that the wise leadership – may God support them – has placed humanitarian work at the forefront of its priorities, reflecting the Kingdom's deeply rooted Islamic and Arab values.

Historical and institutional context of Saudi relief work

This praise comes within the context of a long history of Saudi Arabia's humanitarian efforts. The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center was established in 2015 under the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, to serve as the Kingdom's humanitarian arm and the sole entity authorized to receive and deliver aid abroad. Since its inception, the Center has successfully unified Saudi relief efforts and ensured their delivery to those in need, adhering to the highest international standards of transparency and impartiality. The Center has implemented thousands of projects in dozens of countries worldwide, covering vital sectors such as food security, health, shelter, and education.

The strategic importance of Saudi-Ethiopian relations

This meeting is of particular importance given Ethiopia's strategic location in the Horn of Africa, a region of great interest to Saudi foreign policy due to its direct impact on the security and stability of the Red Sea and the Arab world. The humanitarian and development aid provided by the Kingdom plays a vital role in promoting regional stability and supporting communities affected by natural disasters or conflicts, thus solidifying the Kingdom's position as a global force for good and peace.

Vision 2030 and Sustainable Humanitarian Action

These initiatives align with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to enhance the Kingdom's international standing and develop a more sustainable and impactful non-profit and humanitarian sector. Ongoing coordination between Saudi diplomatic missions abroad, such as the embassy in Addis Ababa, and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center ensures rapid crisis response and efficient resource allocation, thereby reinforcing the Kingdom's image as a global leader in charitable and humanitarian work.
