First aid shipment to Iran: 171 tons of medical relief
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross, announced the delivery of the first aid shipment to Iran since the recent conflict began. Route and contents of the first aid shipment to Iran
The European Union spokesperson, Tommaso Della Longa, explained to reporters in Geneva that the convoy of trucks departed from the Turkish capital, Ankara, on Friday and successfully crossed the border on Sunday, marking one of the first cross-border shipments sent by any international organization since the start of the conflict. Separately, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced that it had delivered 171 tons of essential relief supplies. This aid included 14 trucks that departed from ICRC warehouses in Jordan, loaded with basic household items sufficient to meet the needs of approximately 25,090 people. The shipment included blankets, mattresses, water tanks, kitchen utensils, plastic sheeting, solar lamps, and trauma kits to provide immediate and life-saving care.
Strengthening the capabilities of the Iranian Red Crescent
In addition to relief supplies, international organizations have focused on supporting local infrastructure, providing 200 generators and 100 water pumps, purchased locally, to the Iranian Red Crescent Society. This support aims to bolster the Society's relief and rescue operations under dire circumstances. Della Longa highlighted the immense pressure the Iranian Red Crescent is facing, revealing that four aid workers have been killed while carrying out their humanitarian duty of saving lives since the beginning of the war—a situation he described as unacceptable and a violation of international laws and conventions protecting humanitarian personnel.
