Enhancing the readiness of the road network for the Hajj season to serve the pilgrims

As part of early and ongoing preparations to serve pilgrims, relevant authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are working together to ensure the highest levels of safety and comfort. In this context, the CEO of the General Authority for Roads, Engineer Bader bin Abdullah Al-Dalami, met with the Mayor of Madinah, Engineer Fahd bin Mohammed Al-Balihishi, at the municipality headquarters. The meeting primarily aimed to discuss ways to enhance the readiness of the road network for the 1447 AH Hajj season and to review vital related projects to ensure the best possible services for pilgrims and Umrah performers arriving in the Holy Land from all corners of the globe.
Historical care for pilgrims and infrastructure development
Since the founding of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, serving pilgrims has been a top priority for the wise leadership. Historically, the infrastructure in Makkah, Madinah, and the Holy Sites has witnessed continuous development, with transportation networks evolving from rudimentary roads to state-of-the-art highways equipped with the highest international safety standards. This long-standing commitment reflects the Kingdom's unwavering dedication to facilitating the Hajj pilgrimage and ensuring a safe and accessible spiritual experience. With the increasing number of pilgrims each year, it has become essential to keep pace with this growth through the continuous expansion and development of the transportation and logistics sector, making early preparations a cornerstone of success for every Hajj season.
Integrated initiatives to improve the quality of transport
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed a range of road projects and initiatives undertaken by the General Authority for Roads, emphasizing its pivotal role in supporting road operators. The importance of strengthening integration between the Authority and municipalities in implementing the Saudi Road Code was also stressed. This code serves as a comprehensive technical reference aimed at standardizing technical specifications and standards across all stages of road planning, design, construction, and maintenance, thereby directly contributing to improved quality, safety, efficiency, and environmental and economic sustainability.
The strategic impact of improving the road network's readiness for the Hajj season
The tireless work to enhance the road network's readiness for the Hajj season is of paramount importance and has a far-reaching impact at the local, regional, and international levels. Locally, it contributes to alleviating traffic congestion, reducing accidents, and facilitating the movement of citizens and residents during peak seasons. Regionally and internationally, providing advanced infrastructure reflects the Kingdom's distinguished image and its exceptional ability to manage millions of pilgrims efficiently and effectively. This organizational success reinforces the Kingdom's position as a leading Islamic and global destination and underscores its commitment to providing the highest quality services to pilgrims from around the world.
Vision 2030 aspirations towards global leadership
The General Authority for Roads affirmed its commitment to strengthening integration with the Madinah Region Municipality and all other municipalities to ensure the optimal implementation of the Saudi Road Code. These accelerated steps are aimed at achieving the objectives of the Roads Sector Strategy, which stems from Saudi Vision 2030. Through these efforts, the Kingdom aspires to reach sixth place globally in the Road Quality Index by 2030. This falls within the Authority's role in regulating and overseeing the Roads Sector by developing policies and legislation and implementing the latest technical standards that enhance the experience of road users and raise safety levels across the Kingdom.
