Two residents arrested for promoting fake Hajj services in Mecca

As part of ongoing security efforts to protect pilgrims, security patrols in Mecca arrested an Egyptian resident, both male and female, for their involvement in online fraud. Their activities centered on posting misleading advertisements promoting bogus Hajj services across various social media platforms. The suspects were immediately detained, and all necessary legal procedures were initiated against them before their referral to the Public Prosecution for further investigation and the application of appropriate penalties.
The Kingdom's historic efforts in combating fraud during the Hajj season
For decades, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has placed great importance on organizing the Hajj pilgrimage and ensuring the safety and security of pilgrims arriving from all corners of the earth. Historically, relevant authorities have strived to develop rigorous systems to prevent any abuses or exploitation of the pilgrims. With the rapid advancement of technology, new challenges have emerged in the form of cybercrime, prompting the Ministry of Interior and security agencies to intensify digital monitoring to detect any attempts to exploit Muslims' desire to perform the pilgrimage through illicit means. Combating the promotion of unlicensed Hajj campaigns reflects a firm commitment to the principle of "No Hajj without a permit," a principle that guarantees crowd management and the provision of the best logistical and health services to the actual pilgrims.
Security and economic dimensions of confronting promoters of fake Hajj services
This security achievement carries significant dimensions and implications at the local, regional, and international levels. Locally, this measure enhances the confidence of citizens and residents in the efficiency of security agencies and their ability to protect society from financial crimes and fraud. Regionally and internationally, preemptively striking those promoting misleading campaigns sends a clear message of reassurance to the entire Islamic world: the Kingdom is vigilant against anyone who dares to tamper with the security and safety of pilgrims. This also contributes to protecting the economies of countries from which pilgrims come, as it spares their citizens substantial financial losses resulting from falling prey to fraudulent networks that exploit religious sentiment.
A formal call to abide by the regulations and report violators
In a related context, Saudi Public Security reiterated its warnings and calls to all citizens and residents to fully comply with the Hajj regulations and instructions approved by official authorities. Authorities emphasized the importance of obtaining information and dealing only with officially licensed channels and companies through the “Nusk” platform and approved electronic channels. Public Security also urged everyone to immediately report any violations or suspicious advertisements by calling the unified number (911) in the Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and Eastern Province regions, or (999) in the rest of the Kingdom, to ensure a safe and violation-free environment during the Hajj season.
