The “Nesmo” Olympiad is the first and largest annual national competition specializing in science and mathematics, targeting students from the first year of middle school through the first year of high school.
It progresses through a series of stages, starting at the school level, then moving to the city and governorate levels, culminating in a national team competition for education departments and the Olympiad finals in Riyadh. Its aim is to discover, empower, and prepare talented students to compete in international science Olympiads.
The first stage of the Olympiad, which began last February, saw the participation of 99,179 students from 8,356 schools across 47 cities and governorates throughout the Kingdom. Of these, 19,489 students qualified for the second stage, and 9,945 for the third.

The “Nasmo” Olympiad aims to broaden the discovery of gifted students in public education, localize training in Olympiad sciences within education departments, increase the number of beneficiaries of specialized programs, cultivate scientific inclinations, enhance teacher performance, and enrich curricula with topics that develop higher-order thinking skills, thereby enhancing students' readiness to compete globally.
The National Science and Mathematics Olympiad “Nasmo” is the fruit of collaboration between “Mawhiba” and the Ministry of Education, reflecting both entities' belief in the importance of expanding participation in Olympiad sciences, deepening their impact on the educational field, and strengthening the integration of national efforts to raise the level of participation of Saudi students in international scientific forums.
The King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity “Mawhiba” is a leading global institution in the field of discovering, nurturing, and empowering gifted individuals. It works to adopt a national strategy for discovering and developing talent in scientific fields of national priority, contributing to building a knowledge-based society and promoting a culture of innovation.
