Meteorology: Rain of varying intensity expected across the Kingdom until Tuesday

The National Center for Meteorology issued an important report on the expected weather conditions in the coming days, indicating favorable conditions for varying intensities of rainfall across most regions of Saudi Arabia. According to the report, these weather conditions will begin to have noticeable effects starting tomorrow, Friday, and will continue until next Tuesday, necessitating caution from citizens and residents.

The center explained via its official account on the "X" platform that the anticipated weather system will not be limited to rainfall alone, but will be accompanied by a number of significant weather phenomena. These include active downdrafts that may reach speeds of more than 60 kilometers per hour, which could stir up dust and sand, in addition to hail, a noticeable rise in sea waves along the coasts, and flash floods in valleys and ravines.

Thursday's weather forecast and associated phenomena

Regarding today's weather, Thursday, the National Center for Meteorology's report indicated continued chances of thunderstorms accompanied by active surface winds. The report also warned of the possibility of dense fog, which could reduce horizontal visibility in parts of the highlands of Najran, Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, and Makkah regions. Meanwhile, parts of the Riyadh and Eastern regions are experiencing active winds stirring up dust and sand, requiring extra caution from drivers on highways.

Climatic characteristics of the transitional phase in the Kingdom

These weather fluctuations are a natural consequence of the diverse geographical and climatic characteristics of Saudi Arabia. During these transitional periods, the region is affected by the passage of low-pressure systems that contribute to atmospheric instability. These periods are a natural part of the annual climatic cycle, which involves the interaction of cold and warm air masses, stimulating the formation of cumulonimbus clouds and thunderstorms. Historically, different regions of the Kingdom have experienced similar rainfall patterns that contribute to irrigating the land and replenishing groundwater. However, close monitoring of weather forecasts is essential due to the rapid changes in climatic conditions in both desert and mountainous areas.

Impacts of varying rainfall intensity and safety recommendations

The expectation of varying rainfall intensity carries multiple environmental and service-related impacts. Environmentally, this rainfall contributes to the flourishing of wild vegetation and the revitalization of grazing areas, something many outdoor enthusiasts and campers eagerly anticipate. However, heavy rainfall can also lead to flash floods, posing a real threat to lives and property if safety precautions are not followed.

Therefore, in such circumstances, the relevant authorities always stress the need to stay away from flood channels and valley bottoms, and not to risk crossing them no matter how high the water level is, in addition to following weather updates through official channels to ensure everyone’s safety and avoid potential risks resulting from severe weather fluctuations.
