King Salman Center distributes food baskets in Blue Nile, Sudan

As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to support affected populations worldwide, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continued its relief programs in the sisterly Republic of Sudan. Yesterday, the Center announced the distribution of 1,000 food baskets targeting the most vulnerable families, including internally displaced persons and returnees from South Sudan, in the Al-Rusayris locality of Blue Nile State.

This aid comes as a vital part of the “Sudan Support” project for 2026, as this relief convoy succeeded in reaching 6,098 individuals, contributing to securing their basic food needs under the current circumstances.

The context of the humanitarian crisis in Sudan

This aid is of paramount importance given the complex humanitarian situation in Sudan. Since the outbreak of internal conflicts, many Sudanese states have experienced large waves of displacement, placing immense pressure on food resources and infrastructure in host areas such as Blue Nile State. These areas are facing economic and livelihood challenges that require urgent international and regional intervention to bridge the food gap and prevent the famine from worsening.

Blue Nile State, by virtue of its geographical location, is a pivotal point for receiving returnees and displaced persons, which makes it in dire need of such relief interventions that ensure food security for vulnerable groups, especially women, children and the elderly.

The leading role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

This intervention is not an isolated event, but rather part of a long history of Saudi generosity. Since its establishment, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center has undertaken the responsibility of providing humanitarian assistance without discrimination, and the Kingdom is historically one of the largest donors to Sudan. These initiatives come in implementation of the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Prime Minister, to stand with the brotherly Sudanese people in their time of need.

Expected impact of aid

The distribution of these food baskets contributes to achieving several strategic and humanitarian goals, including:

  • Relief of immediate suffering: Providing food directly to families who have lost their sources of income or have been forced to leave their homes.
  • Enhancing food security: Contributing to the stability of the food situation in Blue Nile State and reducing the risks of malnutrition.
  • Supporting social stability: The availability of basic resources helps reduce tensions resulting from resource scarcity in displacement areas.

These efforts affirm the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s firm commitment to supporting stability in the region and strengthening the bonds of brotherhood with the Sudanese people, by providing tangible support that addresses the daily needs of Sudanese citizens and alleviates the severity of the crises they face.
