Five people arrested for promoting fake Hajj services in Mecca

As part of ongoing security efforts to protect pilgrims and ensure their safety and security, security patrols in the Holy City of Mecca announced a successful preemptive strike against online fraudsters. Authorities apprehended a criminal network involved in promoting fake Hajj services through social media platforms, exploiting Muslims' desire to perform the pilgrimage for illicit financial gain.

Security authorities in Mecca announced that an operation resulted in the arrest of five individuals involved in a fraudulent scheme. Four of those arrested were Lebanese and Egyptian residents, and one was a Saudi citizen. Investigations revealed that the group had been distributing misleading advertisements targeting those wishing to perform Hajj. During the raid, authorities seized large sums of money, computers, forged stamps and documents, and tools used in fraudulent activities. All suspects were immediately detained, and all necessary legal procedures were initiated against them before their referral to the Public Prosecution for further investigation and the application of the maximum penalties.

The Kingdom's historic efforts in protecting the pilgrims

Combating such crimes is not a recent development, but rather part of a long history of Saudi Arabia's commitment to ensuring the safety of pilgrims during Hajj and Umrah seasons. Over the decades, Saudi authorities have developed a comprehensive security and technological system to guarantee the safety of pilgrims and prevent any exploitation. With the Kingdom's significant digital transformation under Vision 2030, trusted official platforms such as the Nusuk platform and the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah's applications have been launched. These platforms aim to regulate the Hajj registration process with complete transparency, thus curbing the activities of brokers and unregulated entities that were active in the past. These technological advancements have made it easier for security agencies to track and monitor any suspicious online activity with remarkable speed.

Security and economic dimensions of combating fraud

This security achievement is of paramount importance and has a profound impact at the local, regional, and international levels. Locally, this measure strengthens the rule of law and protects the national economy from money laundering and illicit enrichment. Regionally and internationally, this decisive action against fraud sends a reassuring message to millions of Muslims worldwide, affirming that the Kingdom is vigilant against anyone who attempts to exploit their dreams of visiting the holy sites. It also contributes to maintaining the Kingdom's exemplary reputation as the custodian and protector of the Two Holy Mosques and prevents pilgrims from abroad from falling victim to transnational fraud networks.

A formal call to abide by the regulations and report violators

In a related context, Public Security urged all citizens, residents, and visitors to fully comply with the Hajj regulations and instructions approved by official authorities. Authorities stressed the importance of obtaining information and services only from reliable sources. They also called on everyone to immediately report any violations or suspicious advertisements by calling the unified number (911) in the Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and Eastern regions, or (999) in the rest of the Kingdom, emphasizing that community awareness is the first line of defense against these crimes.

The Holy Capital Municipality announces seasonal jobs for Hajj

On another front, as part of early and intensive preparations to ensure the success of the Hajj season, the Holy Capital Municipality announced the opening of applications for seasonal jobs for the 1447 AH Hajj season. This step aims to bolster the human resources working to serve the pilgrims. Available positions include various fields, most notably public services supervisor and heavy truck driver. The Municipality stated that applications are open exclusively to Saudi citizens aged 18 and above. Applicants must be fully available to work during the Hajj season, possess the necessary physical fitness to perform their assigned duties, and hold a valid driver's license to ensure the best possible service for pilgrims and facilitate their safe transportation.
