The Environment Department in Taif trains its employees to design irrigation and hydroponic farming networks

In a move aimed at enhancing national expertise and raising the level of technical performance, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture's office in Taif Governorate announced the implementation of a specialized training program for ministry employees entitled "Irrigation Network Design Engineering for Hydroponics." This three-day program, supervised by the Agricultural Training Center in the Jazan region, is part of a series of professional development and capacity-building programs implemented by the ministry to refine the skills of its staff across various regions.

Program details and its technical aspects

The program primarily aims to enhance the technical and theoretical skills of participants in the crucial and specialized field of designing and implementing irrigation networks for hydroponics. The training focuses on strengthening staff skills in applying modern engineering principles, which directly contributes to improving the quality of technical outputs.

The training content includes comprehensive modules, starting with an introduction to the concept of hydroponics and its various systems, moving through the principles of irrigation network design and accurate water calculation, and culminating in how to select appropriate network components. The program also covers operation and maintenance methods, reviewing global best practices and successful experiences in the field to ensure practical knowledge transfer to trainees.

The importance of the shift towards hydroponic farming

This course is particularly important given the environmental and geographical context of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In light of the water scarcity challenges facing the region, hydroponics offers a strategic solution, contributing to water savings of up to 90% compared to traditional agriculture. Therefore, training engineers and specialists within the Ministry in designing irrigation networks for these systems is fundamental to the success of this agricultural transformation. This type of agriculture requires highly precise irrigation engineering to ensure that nutrients reach the plants efficiently and without waste.

Alignment with the goals of Vision 2030

This training initiative is fully aligned with the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, specifically regarding the National Transformation Program and the Saudi Green Initiative. Through these programs, the Ministry aims to achieve sustainable food security, rationalize the consumption of natural resources, and improve the efficiency of water resource management.

This program underscores the Ministry's ongoing commitment to investing in human capital and empowering its staff to keep pace with the latest global technologies in the agricultural sector. By equipping employees with precise engineering knowledge, the Ministry ensures the provision of better advisory and technical services to farmers and investors, supporting the expansion of modern hydroponic farming projects and enhancing the sustainability of the agricultural sector in the Kingdom.
