Technical training in Medina suspended and switched to remote learning due to bad weather

The General Directorate of Technical and Vocational Training in Madinah announced today, Sunday, the suspension of in-person training and its conversion to a remote training system at several of its training facilities in the region's governorates. This decision was made in response to reports from the National Center for Meteorology and out of the institution's concern for the safety of trainees and all staff members at the educational facilities from potential risks resulting from the weather fluctuations.
Facilities included in the suspension decision
The administration clarified that the decision encompasses several colleges and industrial institutes distributed across the region's governorates, namely: the Technical College in Al-Ais Governorate, the Girls' Technical College in Yanbu, and the Technical College and Industrial Institute in Al-Ula Governorate. The decision also includes the Applied Technical College in Yanbu and the Technical College and Industrial Institute in Badr Governorate. This precise location selection is based on the early warning map, which identifies the areas most affected by rainfall or strong winds.
Digital readiness and agile transformation
This swift action highlights the high level of digital readiness of the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) in Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom has invested heavily in the digital infrastructure for education and training in recent years, making the transition from in-person to online training a smooth and efficient process that does not disrupt the training process. Technical colleges rely on advanced platforms that allow trainees to attend lectures and theoretical applications virtually, ensuring the continuity of their education without interruption, even under emergency circumstances.
The importance of early warning and public safety
The ongoing coordination between educational institutions and the National Center for Meteorology reflects the integrated government efforts to ensure public safety. Weather alerts play a pivotal role in proactive decision-making, as regions of the Kingdom, particularly the Madinah region and its coastal and mountainous governorates such as Yanbu and Al-Ula, experience seasonal weather fluctuations that necessitate caution. Suspending in-person classes or training in such conditions is a globally recognized preventative measure to reduce traffic congestion and protect lives from the risks of flash floods or reduced horizontal visibility.
The Technical Training Department called on all trainees to adhere to the instructions and to follow the official channels of the training platforms to find out the schedules of virtual lectures, wishing everyone safety.
