Classes in Asir suspended today, Tuesday, via the Madrasati platform

The General Directorate of Education in the Asir region announced the continued suspension of in- person classes today, Tuesday, in all schools located within the red alert zone issued by the National Center for Meteorology. It was decided to shift the educational process to remote learning via the "My School" platform, as part of the relevant authorities' commitment to the safety of students, teachers, and administrative staff from the severe weather conditions affecting the region.

This exceptional decision encompasses a wide range of governorates and centers within the region, specifically schools in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Ahad Rafidah, Sarat Abidah, Al Namas, Dhahran Al Janoub, Tanomah, Balqarn, Al Harjah, Al Rabwah, Al Farsha, Bisha, Al Amwah, Tathlith, Al Arin, and Tarib. The administration confirmed that classes for all students, staff, and education office personnel will continue regularly through the "My School" digital platform, in accordance with the recommendations of relevant authorities to ensure the continuity of education without interruption.

Reasons and repercussions of the decision to suspend studies in Asir

The Asir region, located in southwestern Saudi Arabia, is characterized by its high mountainous terrain and unique climate, making it susceptible to rapid weather changes, especially during periods of heavy rainfall and dense fog. Historically, these climatic conditions posed a significant challenge to the continuity of in-person education, forcing schools to close completely to protect lives. However, with the tremendous technological advancements the Kingdom has witnessed under Vision 2030, the handling of these emergencies has become more flexible and professional, ensuring the uninterrupted continuation of education.

The role of the Madrasati platform in ensuring the continuity of education

The importance of digital transformation in the Saudi education sector is evident in the reliance on the “My School” platform, which has proven its high efficiency since the COVID-19 pandemic. The shift to distance learning is no longer merely a temporary solution, but has become a national strategy that ensures the continuity of education under any emergency circumstances. Locally, this measure contributes to alleviating traffic congestion and reducing the risk of accidents on slippery roads in mountainous areas. Nationally, it reflects the readiness of the Kingdom’s digital infrastructure and its ability to adapt quickly to crises, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s position as a leading model in managing educational crises and leveraging technology to serve society.

Official authorities, including the Civil Defense and the Traffic Department, urge all citizens and residents in the Asir region to exercise extreme caution, stay away from flood channels and valleys, and adhere to the instructions issued by the National Center for Meteorology to ensure everyone’s safety during this period of significant weather fluctuations.
