The Public Transport Authority in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced record-breaking figures and exceptional performance indicators reflecting the success of the transport system during the 1447 AH Hajj season. Operational and regulatory data revealed a high level of preparedness and integration among various service sectors, which directly contributed to facilitating the smooth movement of pilgrims between Makkah, Madinah, and the holy sites, within an integrated system designed to provide the utmost comfort and safety for the pilgrims.

Saudi Arabia's historic leadership in managing Hajj crowds

These successes are the culmination of decades of accumulated experience in organizing and managing millions of pilgrims during Hajj. Historically, the transportation infrastructure in the Holy Sites has witnessed tremendous development, from relying on traditional roads to introducing modern rail networks such as the Al-Mashaaer Al-Mugaddassah Metro and the Haramain High-Speed Railway, in addition to fleets of smart buses. This accumulation of knowledge and technology has made the Saudi experience a global model to be emulated in managing logistics and facilitating the movement of crowds in record time and within defined geographical areas.

Record operational figures support the transportation system during the Hajj season of 1447 AH

As part of its operational plan for this year, the Public Transport Authority explained that it has prepared more than 33,000 buses equipped with the latest safety features and meeting the highest quality standards, in addition to providing more than 5,000 taxis to serve pilgrims. Furthermore, 32 bus routes have been designated for transporting pilgrims between cities, with 1,193 weekly trips operated by 139 fully equipped buses.

To ensure the quality of services in the field, the Authority deployed a qualified workforce of 300 specialists across 50 key locations to monitor operational and regulatory processes. These regulatory efforts included conducting over 400,000 field inspections and activating more than 950 automated monitoring systems to ensure compliance by transport vehicles in Makkah and Madinah, contributing to raising the overall compliance rate with land transport regulations to 90%.

Positive impacts and international dimensions of logistical success

The success of this system extends beyond the local level, setting a regional and international benchmark. Locally, this success contributes to achieving the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which aims to host increasing numbers of pilgrims while enhancing their quality of life and the services provided to them.

At the regional and international levels, the successful and safe movement of millions of pilgrims from diverse nationalities and cultures reinforces the Kingdom's position as a global logistics leader. It also sends a reassuring message to the entire Muslim world that the Hajj pilgrimage has become easier and safer thanks to modern technologies and meticulous planning, which positively impacts international cooperation in the areas of smart transportation, crisis management, and crowd control.

Full commitment to timelines and high satisfaction levels

Performance indicators demonstrated exceptional punctuality; train services in the Holy Sites achieved a 100% adherence to schedules, while intercity bus services exceeded 96% punctuality. Furthermore, the Authority prioritized measuring user satisfaction directly, conducting over 13,000 surveys of pilgrims regarding transportation services and promptly addressing more than 2,500 reports in the Makkah and Madinah regions.
