Rwandan Minister of Islamic Affairs and Grand Mufti discuss promoting moderation

His Excellency the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, Sheikh Dr. Abdul Latif bin Abdulaziz Al Sheikh, received today in his office in Jeddah Governorate, His Eminence the Grand Mufti of the Republic of Rwanda and President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Musa Sindayagaya, and the delegation accompanying him, who are currently on an official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Strengthening cooperation to promote moderation
The meeting included friendly exchanges and discussions on several topics of mutual interest. The talks focused primarily on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in Islamic and advocacy fields, with an emphasis on mechanisms for disseminating the principles of moderation and centrism, combating extremist ideologies, and promoting the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence among the various segments of society—values that the Kingdom seeks to establish globally.
The Kingdom's leading role in serving Islam
This visit comes within the framework of the leading role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince – may God protect them – in serving Islam and Muslims around the world. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs is working diligently to build bridges of communication with religious leaders and Islamic institutions in the African continent, with the aim of unifying efforts to disseminate the true image of tolerant Islam and to correct the misconceptions that extremist groups attempt to associate with the religion.
The importance of the Rwandan model of coexistence
This meeting is of particular importance given Rwanda's unique experience in peaceful coexistence and societal reconstruction after years of conflict. The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Rwanda is a cornerstone in promoting social peace there. Cooperation with the Kingdom represents significant support for Rwandan Muslims in preserving their moderate Islamic identity and benefiting from the Kingdom's long-standing expertise in the fields of Islamic outreach, training imams and preachers, and printing and distributing copies of the Holy Quran.
Strategic partnerships for a better future
This meeting is expected to open new avenues for joint cooperation, potentially including training programs for Rwandan preachers, exchange visits, and coordination of positions in international Islamic forums. This religious diplomacy reflects the Kingdom's commitment to the stability and development of Muslim communities in Africa, thereby reaffirming its global role as a beacon of peace and humanity.
