SDAIA provides technical support for the Makkah Route Initiative in 10 countries to serve pilgrims

The Saudi Data & Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) continues to provide advanced technical and digital support to ensure the success of the Makkah Route Initiative, implemented by the Ministry of Interior in cooperation with several government agencies. This initiative, now in its eighth year, falls under the Guests of God Service Program, one of the key programs of the Kingdom's Vision 2030. The initiative aims to provide the highest quality services to pilgrims from 10 countries through 17 international entry points during the 1447 AH Hajj season, reflecting the wise leadership's unwavering commitment to providing exceptional care for pilgrims and continuously improving the quality of services offered to them from the moment they depart their home countries.
Historical roots and continuous development in serving the guests of God
Throughout history, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has undertaken the honor of serving the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors. The mechanisms for receiving pilgrims have gradually evolved from traditional methods to the adoption of the latest smart systems. Historically, the Hajj journey was fraught with challenges and hardships, requiring lengthy entry procedures at border crossings. With the launch of Vision 2030, a qualitative leap occurred in the concept of serving pilgrims, with the development of pioneering programs aimed at facilitating this spiritual journey. These steps complement a long-standing Saudi tradition that prioritizes the comfort of pilgrims, transforming complex paperwork procedures into seamless digital pathways that ensure the comfort and peace of mind of pilgrims before their arrival in the Holy Land.
The regional and international impact of the success of the Makkah Route Initiative
The impact of the Makkah Route Initiative extends far beyond the local level, leaving a significant regional and international mark. Internationally, this initiative reflects the Kingdom's bright image as a pioneer in harnessing technology for the benefit of humanity and highlights its exceptional ability to efficiently manage millions of pilgrims. Regionally, in the beneficiary countries, the initiative has fundamentally transformed the pilgrim experience, as all entry procedures, including passport control, customs, and health requirements, are completed at the pilgrims' home airports. This saves millions of hours previously wasted in queues and reduces the operational burden on the Kingdom's airports, creating a global model for managing international travel and facilitating the movement of passengers across borders.
The role of SDAIA and modern technologies in facilitating the spiritual journey
To achieve these ambitious goals, SDAIA equipped the initiative with the latest digital technologies enhanced by artificial intelligence. These technologies facilitate the departure of pilgrims from the initiative's terminals at airports in their respective countries, which include: the Kingdom of Morocco, the Republic of Indonesia, the Kingdom of Malaysia, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the Republic of Turkey, the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, the Republic of Maldives, and, for the first time, the Republic of Senegal and Brunei Darussalam. Year after year, the Authority is committed to developing its technological systems to keep pace with the increasing number of pilgrims and to ensure the provision of high-quality services that reflect the Kingdom's technological advancements.
Ongoing technical and technological support
The SDAIA technical team automatically monitors the systems and workstations of the initiative at the 17 international ports of entry to ensure smooth operations. Continuous technical support is provided to guarantee the highest levels of performance and integration. The authority has equipped mobile workstations and the technical infrastructure to the highest standards to ensure the readiness of all ports of entry within the initiative's terminals at airports from which pilgrims depart. To expedite procedures, SDAIA has completed a number of high-presence tests for all systems and technical devices to verify their efficiency, and has finalized the technical integration with all relevant entities to ensure seamless procedures and the efficient and rapid registration of pilgrims' biometric data.
