Saudi Arabia weather today: Thunderstorms and winds in 7 regions, and marine warnings

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued weather for Thursday, indicating continued atmospheric instability affecting several regions of the Kingdom. The report included forecasts of thunderstorms of varying intensity, accompanied by active winds that may stir up dust and reduce horizontal visibility in some areas.

Areas affected by the rain and wind conditions

According to the center's data, the weather conditions will directly affect parts of the Asir, Al-Baha, Makkah, Madinah, Hail, Al-Jawf, and Northern Borders . These areas, particularly the mountainous regions of Asir, Al-Baha, and Makkah, are typically prone to thunderstorms during this period, necessitating caution.

The report also warned of the possibility of dense fog forming during the night and early morning hours, affecting horizontal visibility, in parts of the aforementioned regions, in addition to parts of the Eastern Province, Riyadh, and Jazan .

The importance of weather warnings and the role of the National Center

These reports are crucial for maintaining public safety, as the National Center of Meteorology relies on a sophisticated system of radars and satellites to monitor weather conditions around the clock. These alerts assist relevant authorities, such as Civil Defense and Highway Patrol, in taking necessary measures to secure roads and provide guidance to citizens and residents, especially those using highways and open roads that may experience slippery conditions or reduced visibility.

State of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf

Regarding the marine conditions, the report detailed the movement of winds and waves as follows:

  • The Red Sea: Northwesterly to northerly surface winds of 10-28 km/h are prevailing in the northern and central parts. The southern part experiences southeasterly to southerly winds of 20-40 km/h, potentially reaching 50 km/h towards the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Wave heights range from half a meter to two meters, and may exceed two meters towards the strait, creating rough sea conditions in that area. Fishermen and other seafarers should exercise caution.
  • Arabian Gulf: Surface winds will be northerly to northwesterly, turning easterly and northeasterly in the evening over the southern part at a speed of 10-30 km/h, with wave heights ranging between half a meter and one meter, and the sea state will be generally light.

Experts always advise following continuous weather updates through official channels, and adhering to safety instructions during rainfall or when visibility is poor due to fog and dust.
