Al-Khafji Municipality removes 5,890 meters of waste and addresses visual pollution

The Khfji Governorate Municipality continued its intensive field efforts to improve the urban landscape and enhance the quality of services provided to residents. A comprehensive cleaning campaign conducted last week resulted in the removal of 5,890 cubic meters of unidentified waste and solid debris. These field operations are part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at eliminating sources of visual pollution and promoting public health in the governorate.

Intensive field efforts and addressing visual distortion

The campaign included mechanical and manual street and public square sweeping, as well as disinfection and insecticide spraying in multiple locations to ensure a safe and healthy environment for residents. These efforts are part of the Saudi Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing's plans, which prioritize quality of life programs—a key objective of Vision 2030—as improving the urban landscape is a fundamental pillar for making Saudi cities more attractive and sustainable.

Cleaning the waterfront and beaches

In a related context, the Mayor of Al-Khafji Governorate, Engineer Mohammed Al-Yami, explained that the field teams paid special attention to the waterfront, given Al-Khafji's status as a coastal tourist city. More than 710 fifty-gallon garbage bags were used to clean the beach, carry out meticulous waste collection, and remove debris that could harm the marine environment or detract from the overall appearance for beachgoers.

Heavy machinery and surveying of open land

Engineer Al-Yami indicated that the municipality dedicated all its resources to the success of this campaign, utilizing five heavy vehicles to clear vacant lots in several neighborhoods, streets, and squares. This equipment, along with the participation of inspectors and field teams, contributed to removing large quantities of sand and dirt accumulated in side streets and alleyways, thus facilitating smoother traffic flow and preventing the accumulation of dirt, a common form of visual pollution.

Promoting environmental awareness and community engagement

The campaign also included providing new waste containers in several neighborhoods and replacing damaged ones, and directing field teams to focus on main streets and side roads to collect plastic, metal, and paper waste. The municipality emphasized that its goal is not limited to immediate cleaning, but also aims to raise environmental awareness within the community, eliminate the phenomenon of indiscriminate dumping of construction debris and waste in residential areas, and ensure its proper and systematic disposal.

Engineer Mohammed bin Ali Al-Yami concluded his statement by calling on all citizens and residents to cooperate with the municipality to achieve a clean and sustainable environment, stressing the importance of not throwing waste randomly, and the need to report any observations or municipal violations through the unified reporting center 940, stressing that the citizen is the first partner in development and preserving national gains.
