43 million trips via transportation apps in Saudi Arabia in the fourth quarter of 2025

The Public Transport Authority in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through its quarterly statistical bulletin issued today, revealed record figures reflecting the great boom in the smart transport sector, as the total number of trips registered through passenger transport applications reached more than 43 million trips during the fourth quarter of 2025. This huge number indicates a remarkable increase of 54.26% compared to the same period of the previous year, which confirms the success of digital transformation strategies in the logistics and transport sector.

Digital transformation and rapid growth in the transportation sector

This rapid growth comes as the Kingdom focuses on enhancing quality of life and leveraging modern technologies to facilitate urban mobility. Ride-hailing apps are now an integral part of the national transportation system, contributing to the provision of safe and reliable transportation options for citizens, residents, and visitors. The significant increase in usage reflects growing user confidence in these services and the development of the digital infrastructure that supports the efficient operation of these platforms across the Kingdom.

Riyadh and Mecca are in the lead

In detailing the geographical distribution of flights, the authority explained that the capital, Riyadh, accounted for the largest share of operations, registering 44.56% of the total flights. This reflects the city's high population density and growing economic activity. Makkah came in second with 21.89%, driven by the active movement of pilgrims and visitors, followed by the Eastern Province with 14.20%, then Madinah with 5.94%, and Asir with 3.20%.

The statistics also included the rest of the regions at varying rates, with Al-Qassim recording 2.95%, Tabuk 2.39%, Hail 1.83%, Jazan 1.24%, Najran 0.67%, Al-Jawf 0.57%, the Northern Borders 0.32%, and finally Al-Baha at 0.23%.

Economic and social impact

The impact of this growth extends beyond mere statistics, encompassing tangible economic and social effects. Ride-hailing apps are effectively contributing to providing flexible income opportunities for thousands of young Saudi men and women, thus supporting Saudization efforts in this vital sector. Furthermore, these apps play a pivotal role in supporting the tourism sector by offering tourists a convenient transportation experience, while also contributing to a reduction in reliance on private cars, which can help alleviate traffic congestion in major cities.

The Public Transport Authority affirmed its continued work on improving the regulatory and legislative environment for this sector, to ensure the sustainability of services and raise the level of quality and reliability, in order to meet the aspirations of beneficiaries and keep pace with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.
