The Imam Muslim Road development project in Riyadh aims to alleviate traffic congestion

The Royal Commission for Riyadh City announced the commencement of the Imam Muslim Road Development, part of the second phase of the program to develop ring roads and main thoroughfares in the capital. This significant step involves activating a new phase of construction work towards Dairab Road to the north, continuing ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency of the road network and improve traffic flow in Riyadh, in line with the rapid urban development the Saudi capital is experiencing.

Development work begins on Imam Muslim Road

Upon completion, the project aims to revolutionize transportation in the southern part of the capital. Spanning 12 kilometers, the project includes the construction of four main bridges, each 150 meters long. Designed according to the latest engineering standards, the project will increase the road's capacity to 200,000 vehicles per day. The modern design features three lanes for the main road and two service lanes in each direction, ensuring a smooth and safe flow of traffic and minimizing waiting times.

A qualitative leap in the capital's infrastructure

This project didn't come about in a vacuum; it's part of a comprehensive strategy adopted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia within the objectives of Vision 2030. Riyadh aspires to be one of the top 10 city economies in the world, and this ambition requires world-class infrastructure capable of accommodating steady population and economic growth. Historically, Riyadh has witnessed tremendous urban expansion over the past decades, placing pressure on existing traffic arteries. Therefore, the program for developing ring roads and main thoroughfares emerged as a radical and proactive solution to keep pace with this expansion and transform the capital into a smart and sustainable city with the highest standards of quality of life.

Economic and social impact of the project

Upon completion, the project will enhance the direct and efficient connection between the Southern Ring Road and Dirab Road, directly serving the densely populated neighborhoods of southern Riyadh. This connection will not only improve mobility but also alleviate traffic congestion on several vital routes. Locally, this will reduce daily commute times for citizens and residents, positively impacting productivity. Regionally, strengthening Riyadh's road network reinforces its position as a leading logistics and commercial hub in the Middle East, attracting further investments seeking a sophisticated and easily accessible business environment.

Traffic diversion plan to ensure smooth flow

To ensure this phase of the works is completed without disrupting residents' lives, the authority has implemented a new traffic diversion while maintaining the road closure at the intersections of Al-Etedal Road and Arafat Road. Traffic has been diverted to carefully prepared service roads and alternative routes to ensure continued traffic flow throughout the construction period.

In a move reflecting the commitment to the safety and comfort of road users, the work zone has been equipped with the necessary directional and warning signs in coordination with the relevant authorities. Digital navigation map applications and systems have also been updated to ensure optimal traffic flow. Furthermore, an interactive page has been created on the Authority's website to publish the latest updates on the project and related roads, keeping the public informed of all developments.
