Housing units delivered to 9,000 families from Jeddah's slums

In a move that reflects the wise leadership’s keenness to provide a decent life for citizens, and with the direct guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Makkah Region and Chairman of the Main Committee for the Removal of Slums in Jeddah Governorate, the Emirate witnessed an important development event represented in handing over housing units to the beneficiaries from the residents of the removed slums.
The Deputy Governor of Makkah Region, Dr. Mohammed bin Salem Al-Balahid, handed over the housing unit documents to their beneficiaries, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Municipalities and Housing for Housing Supply and Real Estate Development, Abdulrahman Al-Tawil. A total of 9,206 families benefited from this phase of the housing program, representing a significant achievement in addressing informal settlements.
A qualitative leap in quality of life
This measure comes as the culmination of the state's ongoing efforts to address the issue of informal settlements in Jeddah Governorate, a project considered one of the largest urban development projects in the region. The goal of removing these settlements is not limited to urban improvement alone, but extends to enhancing the urban landscape, raising the level of services provided to residents, and providing a safe and healthy living environment that aligns with the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and the Quality of Life Program.
Integrated government support
This step underscores the Saudi government's commitment not only to demolition operations but also to providing suitable housing alternatives for affected citizens. Since the project's inception, specialized committees have been working to identify cases, provide developmental and temporary housing services, and disburse fair compensation to ensure the social and economic stability of families. The presence of representatives from the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing reflects the high level of coordination among government agencies to guarantee the swift and efficient delivery of the housing units.
Developmental and social dimensions
The relocation of over 9,000 families from informal settlements, often lacking basic services and organized infrastructure, to modern, fully-serviced housing units represents a significant turning point in their lives. This transformation directly contributes to strengthening family stability and integrating these groups into a modern urban fabric, opening new horizons for social and economic development in Jeddah and enhancing its position as a global tourist and investment destination.
In conclusion, this event embodies the paternal care of the leadership and the meticulous follow-up of the Emirate of Makkah Region, to ensure that development projects serve the interests of the citizen first, achieving a balance between the planning ambitions of cities and the social welfare of the population.
