Execution of a citizen for committing terrorist crimes

The Saudi Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday the execution of a citizen in the Eastern Province, after he was found guilty of committing a series of terrorist crimes that targeted the security and stability of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, most notably targeting security personnel and attempting to destabilize social peace in cooperation with foreign entities.
The ministry statement explained that the perpetrator, Saud bin Mohammed bin Ali Al-Faraj (a Saudi national), had joined a terrorist organization outside the Kingdom and established a terrorist cell within the country that directly sought to assassinate and target security personnel. The charges against him also included supporting and financing terrorist activities, harboring wanted individuals, manufacturing explosives, and illegally possessing weapons and ammunition.
The legal process and guarantees of justice before the execution of a death sentence
The Ministry of Interior indicated that security forces had previously succeeded in arresting the accused following meticulous tracking operations. After the investigations were completed and he was formally charged, he was referred to the competent court, which issued a death sentence against him. The sentence went through all the judicial and legal channels guaranteed by Saudi law, including an appeal, which was upheld by the Supreme Court. A royal decree was issued to enforce the legally mandated punishment, and the sentence was carried out on Wednesday, Shawwal 13, 1447 AH (April 1, 2026), in the Eastern Province.
The Kingdom's historic efforts in combating terrorism and drying up its sources
This step comes within the framework of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s longstanding and ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and extremism in all its forms and manifestations. Over the past decades, Saudi security agencies have faced complex security challenges from numerous terrorist organizations that have attempted to target vital installations and security personnel. The Kingdom has developed a comprehensive security strategy that extends beyond field operations to include combating extremist ideology and cutting off sources of terrorist financing through the enactment of strict laws and the monitoring of suspicious financial transactions.
The local and regional impact of enforcing the rule of law and maintaining security
The implementation of such rulings carries a firm message, both domestically and regionally, affirming the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting its citizens and residents. Domestically, this resolve contributes to bolstering public confidence and the community's trust in the security forces' ability to deter any subversive attempts. Regionally and internationally, this measure reinforces the Kingdom's position as a key and reliable partner in the global war on terror, sending a clear message to transnational terrorist organizations that Saudi territory will remain impenetrable and protected by the vigilance of its security personnel and the strength of its legitimate judiciary.
The Ministry of Interior concluded its statement by affirming the Saudi government’s commitment to maintaining security, achieving justice, and applying the provisions of Islamic Sharia to anyone who attacks innocent people, while simultaneously warning anyone who dares to commit such acts that the legal punishment will be their inevitable fate.
