The Yemeni Shura Council appreciates Saudi Arabia's stance on the Southern Transitional Council's actions

Yemeni Shura Council

The Yemeni Shura Council expressed its deep appreciation for the clear and unequivocal stance adopted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding the recent developments in the eastern governorates, specifically the military movements and unilateral actions undertaken by the Southern Transitional Council in the governorates of Hadramawt and Al-Mahra. This Saudi position reflects the Kingdom's ongoing commitment to the stability and unity of Yemen in the face of current challenges.

Supporting legitimacy and rejecting escalation

In an official statement carried by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), the Shura Council affirmed its absolute support for the call issued by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, urging the Southern Transitional Council (STC) to immediately end this unjustified escalation. The Council stressed the importance of the STC responding to these calls and urgently withdrawing its forces from the two governorates to avoid any repercussions that could destabilize security and stability in these vital areas, and to prioritize the supreme national interest over any narrow considerations.

The strategic importance of Hadhramaut and Al Mahrah

These developments are particularly significant given the sensitive geopolitical location of the Hadramawt and Al-Mahra governorates. Hadramawt is the largest governorate in Yemen by area and possesses considerable economic and social weight, while Al-Mahra represents Yemen's eastern gateway, bordering the Sultanate of Oman. These two governorates have remained relatively untouched by direct armed conflict in recent years, making them safe havens for displaced persons and centers of economic activity. Therefore, any military escalation in them not only threatens civil peace but also complicates the overall Yemeni landscape and hinders the Presidential Leadership Council's efforts to normalize the situation in the liberated areas.

Saudi-Emirati efforts to contain the situation

In a related context, the Shura Council statement welcomed the joint and intensive efforts led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to contain the situation and prevent it from escalating further. The Council commended the proposed roadmap for a solution, which includes the return of the Southern Transitional Council forces to their previous positions and the handover of military camps and security responsibilities in Hadramawt and Al-Mahra to the "Homeland Shield" forces and local authorities. This strengthens the presence of state institutions and prevents duplication in military and security decisions.

A call for reason to prevail

The Shura Council concluded its statement by calling on the leadership of the Transitional Council to exercise reason and respond quickly to local and regional calls demanding the withdrawal of forces, in order to preserve national unity and the interests of the people of the southern governorates and Yemen in general, stressing that the current stage requires unifying efforts to confront the real danger represented by the Houthi militias, instead of wasting capabilities in side conflicts.
