Cabinet: Welcomes Syria agreement and condemns Gaza violations

His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister - may God protect him - chaired the Cabinet meeting held today in the capital, Riyadh, which addressed a number of important political and regional issues, most notably the developments in the Syrian Arab Republic and the Gaza Strip.
At the outset of the session, the Cabinet commended the positive developments on the Syrian scene, praising the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) for their cooperation with the intensive diplomatic efforts led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in coordination and cooperation with the United States of America. These joint efforts culminated in a ceasefire agreement, a pivotal step in the course of the years-long Syrian crisis.
The importance of the Syrian agreement and its regional context
This agreement comes at a highly sensitive time for the region, as Syria has suffered for over a decade from internal conflicts that have directly impacted regional stability. The significance of the agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) lies in its paving the way for unified efforts to combat terrorism and consolidate state sovereignty, as well as its role as a cornerstone of the comprehensive political solution supported by the Kingdom and the international community in accordance with relevant UN resolutions.
The success of the Saudi-American mediation reflects Riyadh's pivotal role in shaping regional stability and underscores the Kingdom's strategy of prioritizing dialogue and diplomacy to resolve complex conflicts. It is hoped that this agreement will contribute to improving the humanitarian situation for the Syrian people and open new horizons for the return of refugees and reconstruction, while ensuring Syria's territorial integrity and unity.
A firm stance towards the Palestinian issue
On another front, the developments in the Palestinian territories were also on the Council's agenda, with the Cabinet emphasizing the contents of the statement issued by the foreign ministers of the Kingdom and the Arab and Islamic states. The Council reiterated its strong condemnation of the ongoing violations of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip by the Israeli occupation forces.
The Council affirmed that these Israeli violations not only constitute a breach of international law, but also directly undermine all international efforts to solidify the ceasefire and achieve a permanent cessation of hostilities. This condemnation comes within the context of ongoing Saudi diplomatic efforts to mobilize international support and pressure Israel to halt its military operations and ensure the flow of humanitarian aid to civilians besieged in the Gaza Strip, reaffirming the Kingdom's historical commitment to supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
