Professor Mashael Al-Dubaie, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Association, explained that the official launch of the Association's operations coincided with World Autism Awareness Day, which falls on April 2nd each year. She stated that the Association has established its headquarters in Riyadh, driven by a deeply rooted humanitarian mission that believes in the right of beneficiaries to access fair opportunities that guarantee them a dignified and, to the greatest extent possible, independent life. She noted that the Association's operational plans primarily aim to bridge the current gap in services through innovative programs that increase rates of social inclusion, in full alignment with the objectives of the Quality of Life Program.
Accurate statistics highlight the importance of early intervention
The chairperson revealed specialized medical statistics confirming that approximately 1% of children are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. She noted that the rate of diagnosis among males is four times higher than among females. She added that 40% of those diagnosed experience significant impairments in speech and communication skills, necessitating early intervention and continuous, intensive care through specialized and qualified centers capable of addressing the various degrees of autism spectrum disorder.
